If someone would have said before Euro finals that we would have to beat Slovakia and Switzerland to reach semi finals?….I am sure we would have all bit their hand off!….. we will never have a better chance than this year(choose how **** Southgate can be)….COME ON!!!!!!
We will have to improve quite a lot to beat the Swiss. They’ve been a lot more impressive than us up to now.
I think we've got to be careful about looking beyond the next match. We shouldn't just dismiss Slovakia, and I'm sure Gareth won't allow us to do that.
Now that Denmark is out, and Georgia will be out tomorrow (let's hope that I'm wrong though!), I think I'll be rooting for Switzerland and Netherlands for the rest of the tournament.
The Swiss look incredibly strong. Excellent defence, Schar and Akanji in particular, Xhaka pulling the strings (he always has been a top player, but he's really looking the part so far in this), and a very lively forward line. I'd not fancy England against them tbh.
Southgate would be shitting himself at the prospect of facing Athersley rec (no disrespect intended to Athersley Rec)in the semi finals. That's the problem he worries far too much about the opposition and this makes him too cautious. The players need to be allowed to express themselves in the way Brian Clough used to allow his players to. We have world class players let them play to their potential, take the bloody handbrake off Gareth.
True but it was a bit of a weird game in that both sides seemed content with a draw as it effectively put Switzerland through & meant Scotland ‘only’ needed to beat Hungary to go through. 3 good performances though.
I think we’ll be fine. They’re a poor side that were fortunate to be in the weakest group. If we can’t beat them it would be our most embarrassing tournament exit ever in my opinion.
Yeah Dj, I think the same in fairness, without wanting to sound arrogant etc. I thought they were so lucky to beat Belgium, when Lukaku had the two goals ruled out with Var.
I think they were on a similar level to this Slovakia & we’re far better (at least on paper) than the 2016 side. Not many tipped us to do a lot after finishing bottom of our World Cup group in 2014.
