Not seen owt on here today. Sending out a big shout to the organisers, participants and spectators for the Barnsley 10k race. Not quite a personal best today but loved the camaraderie and support from Tarn folk.
In the olden days used to be the Barnsley 6 (miles). I'm sure a Reform UK victory will reinstate it and only white people, born in England will be able to compete.
Never did the 10k did the half marathon once got the bus back from cawthorne i was foooked, i think it toook longer on bus went to places i never heard of.
Quite unusual for a Council to stage a run, fair play to them. Would you class it as a ‘fast’ course?
The Barnsley Six and the Barnsley 10K were different races, I believe JP. The Six was tougher, hence my PB's (many decades ago) being about 2 minutes worse for the Six than the 10K. Did the Six and the 10K many times, Winker. I only tried a half marathon once, namely the Rotherham version (about 1985, IIRC). My God! That was some way. Well and truly cream-crackered after that, and I knew a full marathon would always be beyond me!
It was a lot more hilly than I expected to be honest. Started near Market Kitchen, out to West Way, Shambles Street and out to Barugh Green on Huddersfield Road with a similar return. I grew up in Barnsley but hadn't realised just how hilly that route was.
Nice to see the Barnsley 10k being in Barnsley. Did one a few years back, but that was from Royston and never actually made it into Barnsley proper despite its name. Saw a load of pictures from my former club mates.
I can't think how all the Turkish barbers make a living. there can't be that many Turkish folk in Barnsley, especially after Brexit!
That’s why I asked, when I looked at description it was described as undulating which usually means hills! But then with you saying not quite a PB, made me question so I looked up results and see winner was around 32 minutes, Grimsby this year was won around 31 which is classed as a fast course, hence question.
Ah - sorry! Thought I'd missed somert! Twas bloody hard to be fair. Much more hilly than I realised. I drive that route pretty much every match day and really hadn't realised just how vertical it actually was. Also, for context my PB on a 10k is 57mins. So no where near the actual winner today!!
Can anybody remember the race they used to do with a sack of coil abart 50kg on their backs, do they still do it,
I know that feeling, as a keen social runner I often find myself cursing roads that I never knew had hills..
