I reckon one of their coaches drilled “JUST GET IT ON TARGET” into them and they were all just trying not to miss
Unless you're good enough to guarantee that your penalty goes right in the corner, the best policy is just to absolutely leather the **** out of it. Very high chance it will go in even if the keeper gets something on it.
What a player he was you mean it’s embarrassing how much it’s all about him and instead of geeing up his teammates in extra time or before the penalties he’s instead walking around sulking worrying about his legacy.
Ronaldo is far from the player he once was, but still wants to try and do everything. They'd be a better team without him in it now.
Totally agree Ronaldo holds back Portugal. At best he plays in vignettes, at the worst it means they play with 10 men, meaning the others have to bust a gut. Anyone explain why he keeps Jota out of the side? The man's become a celeb circus, there for shirt sales and to fan an ego.
Bring Pele back into the Brazil squad. He might be dead but he used to be good so he wouldn't hold them back
Portugal should drop Ronaldo. They look a lot better with jota on the pitch. Ronaldo plays In a walking league these days. Could still be an impact sub but they need to change it up.
You could see from how and where they stood before kicking the ball that they were never going to score. They might as well have used a snooker cue and a rest.
I think they froze in front of all the Portuguese fans. If it had been at the other end it might have been a different result
I cant lie, I love the fact that Ronaldo hates the fact that Messi has a world cup and has 3 more ballon dors despite being 2 years younger. Everyone seems to hate when Bruno fernandes throws his arms up in the air when playing for man United, moaning, pissing about, but when ronaldo does it... its because he cares too much. Its all about him and I cant wait until the cheating Portuguese go tumbling out of the competition.
Can never understand the Ronaldo haters, if England players came anywhere near his dedication and professionalism we might have won something by now.
Professionalism in the sense of personal accountability 1000%. I cannot stand the man, hes incredibly selfish on the pitch, has been for years, he loves the attention and being a celebrity and thats just a personality I dislike. But his dedication, hard work and drive cannot be spoke down on. I know he'll have the best everything to help him, but the way he's kept in shape, the sacrifices he will have made for it, the temptations resisted, he can't be anything but admired for that. A proper true athlete and a lot of footballers and people in general should be inspired. I know I am. Still think he's a nob in football terms though. He's also paid women to keep quiet on a few dodgy dodgy things which I don't like.
He's probably in the top 3 on the all time list, but there's no way he should be leading the line for them this tournament. Their squad is insane. He's holding them back now.
Not the player he was but still very good - the pressure is getting to him though. He’ll look desperate until he gets a goal - he may not get one of course. I think you’ll see a slightly different play as and when he does though. The penalty wasn’t a bad effort, it was a fantastic save from Oblak. The tears were a bit much when they were still in a game though. Emotion is fine, great even. But be upset when your team loses, not for yourself when you miss and the game is still in the balance - use that energy to go again. That said he showed a lot of bottle and quality stepping up in the shootout. That was a fantastic penalty under immense pressure. Martinez would have to have some bottle to drop him - especially for a player who was mainly bit part for Liverpool this past season.
973 shots, 0 goals, 1 missed penalty. It's all about him when he plays, he doesn't give a **** about what's best for the team just what's best for him.
