It's all part of the excitement of the new season, wondering who we will get good or bad. I just hope it ends up a player who will end up in the first team with no injuries. And is fondly remembered for ever.
We have either got to trust that the young ones coming through can step up, or we don't. I'm glad I'm not making that decision
We reportedly had a bid accepted for another player just last week. In fact, over the last 10 or so years, I reckon we've paid a fee for more players than the ones we've signed on a free. Of course we could go steaming in and offer a million quid for this lad, have him through the door this week, but then that's probably our entire budget gone for the season, when in reality, half a million, tops, probably gets him.
Difference is,the one from Birmingham sounds like a work in progress and a bit meah, however the lad from Mansfield is highly rated.Big difference !
Just looked up Mansfields squad and discovered that former red Scott Flinders plays for them. Remember him? Palace paid about £750k for him after he had barely played a game for us. Think it was during Andy Ritchie's tenure. Also other ex reds George Williams George Maris and Rhys Oates plus a number of very experienced players such as Aden Flint Stephen Quinn and Lee Gregory.
In your opinion like. The news articles I've read have even described the lad from Birmingham as 'highly rated', not that it makes a difference.
Another difference is where they’re coming from. Longelo has been playing for Birmingham in the division above us. We had some players that weren’t up to it in that league, who then ended up proving to be more than capable in League One. The other is highly rated in the league below, so he’ll be stepping up.
I mean, Birmingham are well known for iffy managerial decisions. Anyway, I'm not sure what any of that has to do with us having bids accepted/rejected for players. The point still stands, we've routinely paid a fee for players in the last few years.
Yes but that's when we have sold relatively big. This year very little will be coming inward.Granted we're saving wages from high earners.Like I say book Mark me,we won't be signing the Mansfield lad !
Do we need another midfielder ? With Wolfe and Benson back from long term injury plus Hourihane as a backup we should be OK providing we don't lose Connel or Philips in the window.
Clarke has said we are looking for a new midfielder Although, if we were to get this done I don't actually think he'd play in midfield. I thought that initially but after a bit more looking around he's more like McAtee I think, he'd probably be played up top like McAtee was for us linking play up etc.
