Thrash Metal, undeniable as the greatest music genre, double fact.
More talent in their little finger than any other genre, triple fact.

Good thing about music is there doesn’t have to be that much new stuff because so much already exists - centuries worth of it

Just pick a band, research its members, their previous work and associates. It’s a musical rabbit hole. One example already mentioned is ‘Tears for Fears’ who used to be part of a mod revival band.

Some bands that are only remembered for one song that charted have several albums and niche followings.

Bands you might have not ‘got’ 40 yrs ago but now play to death.

I never thought I’d shoe horn in the Village People, but “You can’t stop the music, Nobody can stop the music”

    :)

Yes, the vocals I think gave me that feel, a bit Tim Burgess like too.

I enjoyed it, please do share more on here!

There was a huge boom about 10 years ago on the back of Tame Impala.

I'd recommend Pond, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Wand, Morgan Delt, Ghost of a Sabre Tooth Tiger, Goat, La Luz.

And a second for Redfearn'sRocket's Temples mention. Great band and their Exotica album is a hidden gem of 2023.

music is amazing today. Just as good as ever. Some absolutely brilliant albums released this year from Gruff Rhys, Richard Hawley, Bill Ryder Jones and Warring Runcorn. For bands the Coral are doing their absolute best work. Janelle Monae and Little Simz see Stellar. Benefits loud and angry.

On that same vein, I recommend the Beastie Boys. People only recognise them for their angsty hip hop hits like Fight for your right and No sleep til Brooklyn, but they've released stacks of albums covering loads of different types of music, including an entirely instrumental one. Very very underrated group.

Never write anyone off mate. Just look at Rick Astleys Glasto performance!

I went searching for guitarists and ended up watching YouTube videos of Django Reinhardt.

Sorry if that offends, there was just something that made me think of them, not sure what it was.

Got into Django last year, some absolutely wonderful stuff with him and Grappelli. Only 43 when he died too.
