For coming out and saying that we've missed out on our targets.. Something that was obvious to some but still got lambasted by others.
'Another' disappointing transfer window on the cards then? I can't remember the last successful one, every year it has been failure to recruit in key positions or just an influx of players that are nowhere near first team level.
Someone mentioned it in another thread but the time to recruit real quality was last season, missed the boat....... Story of the current board really...... Still Conways fault
I think some context is helpful though. He also says it’s hard, because we’re after targets that Championship clubs are after. He doesn’t say we’ve ballsed them up because we don’t want to go up.
Some of the targets, clearly says some. I’d have thought that happens to all football clubs across the world.
Club has previously been criticised for targeting non league punts etc and now being criticised for targeting players capable of playing in Championship(not you), good to see nothing changes in the fan base
The financial position is probably a lot worse than we thought. I see a season or two of transition/rebuild. The loan market could be key for us.
Hardly a surprise we've missed targets to teams in the league above. It at least shows we are attempting to bring good players if Championship sides think they are up to scratch. Now the fun and games of looking at Championship signings to see who we think we might have tried for.
Without knowing what Conor and Marc are being paid, if the financial position is even more dire than we thought, Darrel either knows about it and is telling porkies about bringing in another coach, another gk etc, he’s expecting a lot of players to be sold to fund it, or option C he’s completely in the dark.
Reminds me of 2015/16 pre-season. We didn't sign players willy nilly then either. Brought in Watkins and Mawson.
Reading the other article in the Chronicle about Jackson Smith it says we may still look to bring another keeper in on loan if he isn't quite up to scratch to begin with, if that's the case then why on earth have we extended Killips contract - granted he won't be on much but it seems a bit daft.
Does that not mean the on loan guy would be temporary(upto Jan maybe) to start whereas Killip is a long term standin?
I'm not bothered personally about that one. He looks a decent prospect but he's not likely to get near McAtee or Cole's tally from last season. They are also spending a club record fee on him. Doesn't look a bad pick up, but they seem to be massively over paying for someone with a year left
One of the financial minds on here will correct me if I wrong, but I don't think it's that much of a surprise. They've recorded quite significant losses the last couple of seasons despite averaging half of our gate. There's also no guarantee they outbid us either. Bristol Rovers might have promised him regular first team football whereas we've publicly said we want 2 strikers to go alongside the 4 senior ones we already have in our books. What I mean is, I don't think it's that much of a surprise he's gone there in particular over us.
Piecing together that Doug has said over the last few weeks, we were interested in the lad from Fleetwood who's gone to Bristol, and El Mizouni whi has signed for Oxford. I guess that's part of the reason that the club doesn't try and publicise it's targets.
