Midtable second tier with the occasional tilt at playoffs. And that expectation was delivered upon for years and years and years and years and years and years and years on end. That's only changed since Cryne's expert expectation management and the ineptitude of those who succeeded him.
How this turned into the usual subtle digs at Cryne I will never know. It's always easy making comments when it's someone elses money. You yourself made issue with spending money just last week Mr. Dawson
I think you were being sarcastic. If so, ignore the rest of this post. http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/league/bars.htm Not having a go at Cryne, but when did he lead us to an occasional championship playoff? Also, how many times did we finish comfortable mid table when he was owner? Ritchie season? Our highest championship finish since 2000 was during Covid, not under Cryne. The closest before that was the Boro game when we thought we’d snook in. We were mid table first division before the Prem, when we were getting gates of 7k ish, but no one was spunking money back then. You’d play Man City one week, Grimsby the next, it was such a level playing field.
I remember the comment "If you want high level spending we want high level attendances...i'll put my money in to mirror gate receipts".
He kept us in the second division for 10 out of 12 seasons. You've just said your expectations were second division?
I was content challenging in the Championship.(With higher aspirations). Why are you so hell bent on being happily mediocre?
interesting how this thread had has developed from dislike of clubs spending money to gain an advantage over already less well equipped clubs, to envy and then using as a stick to beat our own club, based on a rose tinted image of what we once were.
They won't walk nothing. Bookmark this. They have some good wingers that's about it but they will score goals but concede alot too. They will have a season similar to us.
I hate the idea of spending to achieve or to survive etc, but if other clubs are doing it... then yeah, I wish we could do it more as well. Surely Birmingham will be favourites for this season, and if they don't go up by whatever means, it will be a hilarious disaster!!.
Where have i stated I'm happy with mediocrity? What a strange response. Youre like 2 different people on here during week days and weekends. There's loads of clubs i wish we were as good as. There's even more I'm glad we are better than. It just seems so easy to criticise when it's someone else spending their own money and making hard decisions. I think Patrick did a brilliant job keeping us where he did considering some of the wealth he was up against.
Thing his we sign players,at an early age, develop them so you can see theres a player in there, then sell them to teams where they sign them to develop them some more, Players they sold last year and wasnt it said we only a a million a year, summat like that anyway,I know alot of teams take payment like that helps cover ffp I reckon,we want paying in full or there not having them,Philip's is a good player, hope he stays I'd like him to be here for a while, what's our new managers system, are we pressing high and not trippy tapping at back,we need someone to play in front of defence who can get in abit of space and pass a ball, conner could do that,Philip's can score up top.
