Barnsley fans doing what Barnsley fans do best.
Moaning before a balls being kicked in anger.
For Christ's sake give the team a chance.
If its obvious after a few games that we aren't good enough then fair enough, vent your spleen. Maybe I'm being simplistic but I thought the clue was in the name, Supporters:rolleyes:

I'm not easily offended and dont really care but like a lot of posts on here it was an insult and people should be able to call out as such with being told wind their necks in.
    Just saying.

I get that but it was always my impression that what was said didn't really match the reality of the situation. He told Barnsley fans in meetings that he was a reluctant custodian yet made zero effort to advertise the club for sale. I'll leave it at that because I don't wish to speak ill of the dead but I think a lot of our current problems stem from Patrick

How many football clubs are you aware of that go publicly on sale. I know as little as you tbh. Only the spoken word as you say. But it was definitely out there. Barnsley are not one of the top targets for investment. He did want to leave it in safe hands. That was the reason he took us on himself. Sadly I think if he'd have had the hindsight of the lee/conway debacles that followed. He may have handed over entirely to James or even a fan based group.

Now that's something I definitely agree on. If he wasn't pushed for time and desperate I don't think he would have had anything to do with Conway and co

We'll have to agree to disagree. We need more first team ready players in to challenge top 4.. loans with view to buy would be ideal.. but if not will go with first team ready loans.. but then you are improving other clubs players..
What happened to Owen Dodgson Btw anyone know.. he looked decent every time I say him..

I look forward to you calling out 'proper' insults in the future, there are plenty of them on here. We all know you won't.

It's good to disagree, I would though like your opinion on the list of 7 players that have left last season and the replacements I put forward.
If more of the the ones gone you honestly believe are better than the replacements then yes it's weaker than last season. Include the head coach in this as well because that is an important factor.

Without more additions though I still think we can challenge in the playoffs but maybe like last season not have enough to get the promotion we want.

It's the only way the club owners will not have to put money in, is through the revolving door of a productive academy.
But any success would be fleeting and a by-product not the sole aim.

I personally wouldn't support the "feeder club" approach.. I don't expect owners just to keep putting money in but they must be a middle ground.. Back to my No1 bugbear our recruitment...

    Our recruitment must be better..

Now Conway has gone and if we do get promoted and have a championship budget then I still expect some players to leave but wouldn't expect a fire sale again. If it does happen again I will be very disappointed with the owners.

Dodgson was recalled cos we didn't play him and then he went to Dundee after.

Signed a new deal not long ago at Burnley I believe

Based purely on what i've seen and heard:

    Roberts > Smith
(I would stick Williams in as a right back ideally because that's where we'd play him if we actually had 3 adequate centre backs in)
    Cadden > Okeefe
    Kane < Hourihane
    Cole > Cosgrove
    Mcatee > Jalo

Besides our squad isn't stronger at all because we've lost 6 first team players and gained 3, so instantly we are weaker because of that.

Would agree with your current position for myself in ref to the team.
My main criticism of our board is the apparent lack of plan for the club, it’s clear that neither player trading or substantial investment is going to get the club to where we all want to, so there needs to be a long term plan of how to change that.
Other teams are doing it and IMO it’s the only way for us to change what has become the ‘normal’.
Appreciate historically the lease etc may have been a huge sticking point but would be nice for the board to say ‘here is our 5/10 year plan to change X,Y & Z that will help increase revenue into the first team.

Wow this has erupted since yesterday.

Most (but not all) seem to agree that we won’t challenge based on our current best XI.

I just think we need to replace the goals we’ve lost. Our depth is definitely weaker in terms of when we suffer injuries and who comes in to replace. This WILL happen.

Also I agree that this season will be the strongest L1 since we got relegated. You just need to look at who has come down in Brum, Rovrum and Huddersfield. That’s 3x really strong sides plus the norm of Bolton, Peterborough, Blackpool and Wigan who I think will be up there. Not to mention Disney FC.

This season is so important to get right more than the previous two. Last season for me was the time to go up given how weak I thought the league was.

The goals we need to replace scream out more than anything to me. We needed to address that last season and that was with Cole and McAtee. Had we got that player in January I think we’d have made it. Coles form dropped off a cliff and we had nobody to come straight in and keep us pushing on.

Our current strongest XI isn’t bad tho but I do agree that it’s not strong enough to push given the quality this season we will be up against.

    Why do you think that?

They were more fashionable than Bournemouth when they were bought.

They were more fashionable than Brentford when they were bought.

They were more fashionable than WRectum when they were bought.

Mainly a gut feeling as not being fashionable enough.
Just my thoughts. On the following having looked into em.

South coast seaside club.Bournemouth were taken on by a fan exactly like us after admin. Then shares were sold to a russian in 2011 for a pittance. Who then eventually sold for £100m in 2022.

London based club Brentford and I'll stand corrected are owned by a fan of the club since the 70s.

Wrexham. Reportedly bought for around £2m. The owners were looking to buy a club after Reynolds initially rejected a sponsorship. They in effect started at the bottom and run with it.

I would imagine our owners would at least look to retrieve their losses. Which run into several millions I believe. Then the issue of who owns the ground etc may put off any investor who would want lock stock and barrel.
As I say they are all only opinions. I don't think any billionaires are looking at clubs like us.
