Horrendous. I see the fundraiser has reached £110,000. Crowdfunder is a really good thing and so many kind people

Exactly what I said to my missus. once saw a car full of youths lose control and crash at speed and went to see if we could help. Won’t go into detail but it was shocking and something you never forget.

Those that attend such accidents deserve a medal. To start every shift prepared for the worst takes a special kind of individual.

I’ve made a donation, the poor lass.

Can’t imagine what’s going through her mind; losing everyone and everything - and knowing she’d chosen to not go and not be in the car. How on earth does an eleven year old compute that?

She’s going to need a world of support and for a long time; I hope she gets it.

Absolutely horrendous, just another reminder how your whole world can be turned upside down in the blink of an eye. A reminder to be so careful on the roads as you never know what you can face next.

Not that it brings anybody back or heals any pain after what's happened, but I noticed the GoFundMe is now up to £171,517 as I type. Incredible generosity, one donation I noticed was £5000.

170 grand in the pot so far. Times like this should show us that we're not a bunch of heartless numpties as a Nation. We need to refocus on what's important. Family, friends, loyalty, love and kindness.

There MUST be something done with that stretch of road moving forward. People attain frightening speeds down there and it's tragedies waiting to happen.

With the families, and the surviving Daughters permission, might it be worth starting a petition to the Council/Councillors to implement traffic calming measures there? They could, and I say this with all sincerity and not a single hint of humour, call it the Poppie Appeal, after the surviving daughter.

    Terrible.

Fixed speed camera obviously didn’t work - so why not put in average speed check cameras like they have through Hickleton and all way up to Marr on the whole stretch?

They are the only cameras I’ve seen to be effective at making traffic stick to a limit consistently. Are they all front facing though (so wouldn’t affect bikes)?

Just shows that social media isn’t the answer to criminal investigations and to leave it to the professionals. It’s bad enough of a tragedy without social media pinning the blame on certain individuals without knowing the full facts. One of the reasons I’m not on Facebook.

Oh wow. That's made me really angry. All the blame, with no knowledge, being directed at the motorcyclist, and the reality could be that it was a moron in a Porche. Who may have been driving wrecklessly. Who caused the death of 6 people. Who then didn't stay on scene. And he was the one that survived. No words.

Agree, very good, works on the motorway. Stopping overtaking is another thing to consider, even at 50mph it's a 100 mph smash. You'll never stop youngsters speeding at night though. They think they are immortal, and too often they seem to come a cropper with trees and ditches. Always seems to be four in a car, do they egg each other on?

Bit different jay as they’ve been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. This coming direct from West Yorks Police. Bit different to ppl just speculating on social media this time buddy.

It's suspicion though. He could be questioned and released. We're still in the stage of not knowing what happened.

Yes you are right. The main difference being that people on social media instantly thought the biker was at fault without actually knowing anything from official police outlets. I even got told this myself from someone.

Then the news today has shocked people with the fact that there possibly is another vehicle involved. With the police arresting someone (although not yet charged) they must have something on the arrested person. It’s whether there is enough evidence to support this. Maybe it is a form of speculation like you say but it does lead you to believe that they are at fault due to the potential charge that could come their way. They didn’t have to release that statement.

All I know is that to keep the road closed as long as they have…..there is a massive puzzle for them to try and solve.

It makes it ten times worse knowing that there could potentially be two innocent parties that have lost their lives due to someone else.

    Truly Heartbreaking.
