Did we make him an offer towards the end of his contract and he turned it down or did we just let him go?
I dont want him back. In my opinion he's not good enough. I'm not saying he's crap because he's not but if we want to do better and progress we should be trying to get someone in who genuinely will improve us in that position. For me he's an 'ok' L1 striker, nothing else. I know there's an argument he's not been replaced but then its incumbent on the board to do something.
Wouldn't be the worst thing to happen. If we miss out on our targets. And He hasn't got a club willing to pay what he wants. A signing on fee and lesser wages than hes looking for, may suffice. I think the way we were disjointed towards the back end more so. Made em (Cole/Kane/Cadden) not fancying re-signing. Talks apparently did take place.
I'm not remotely interested in him playing for us again. I hope he finds a deal that suits him, but I think it is time to move on. His goals have been very valuable in the last two years of his contract, but he failed to show up at the business end of the season, for whatever reason. I'd be surprised if he gets a lucrative move in the EFL. Maybe something overseas, I guess. Good luck to him.
Leading scorer for the past two seasons, but would we be getting first-half-of-last-season Devante, or second-half-of-last-season Devante?
Can see him going somewhere like Chesterfield. Wouldn't want him back though form latter half of season was terrible for 1st choice forward.
What did he score last season 17 all from open play? I'd have a wager say 20 quid charity of your choice none of the strikers here now will score that from open play next season.
On his performances 1st half of last season I'd definately sign him. On his performances 2nd half of last season I'd rather sign his dad.
Don't think he would want to play for us again. I do agree that if we want to improve the team we need someone who will contribute more overall to the way we play. Can't knock 18 goals but it could have been 25 for the season.
I don't think he would come back. Don't blame him really was a real scapegoat and got alot of unwarranted stick imo. In his message he sent when he left one of the sentances said something like I know you can please everyone or something along those lines.
The way he set off last season, he exceeded my expectations with the amount and variety of goals he scored, although I always thought he looked a bit awkward and didn’t have the best first touch. That goal scoring effort made me adjust my expectations - I thought he would easily finish on 20+ with so many games left to play, and I think that’s where he let himself down and hampered his chances of getting a decent move for himself. I don’t want him back, probably for the same reason that other clubs don’t seem to be falling over themselves to secure his services, even on a free.
