McAtee is highly inconsistent. You have no idea what you're going to get on any given matchday. Too erratic for my liking.
Think over the season you would have to say he was a success but i agree with what people are saying about his inconsistency and the fact that he ran around a lot closing people down gave him extra brownie points with our fans. Personally I’d rather us push the boat out and get the lad from Mansfield instead.
That someone suggested John McAtee was the most overrated loan player ever. The list posted were a selection of loan players we have had over the last 20 years or so.
I read somewhere McAtee wants to prove himself in pre season and then a decision will be made. I think he will be a late one into the window for somebody. The Luton forum last week suggested a lower Championship side, thought to be Millwall, were waiting in the wings but McAtee wants to give himself the best opportunity at Luton. Be very surprised if anyone in League 1 gets him. And we’ll be in for him if he’s available. Surely we wouldn’t let someone proven at this level slip by if there was a chance over the lad from Mansfield.
Walks into our team currently though. Plus I don't think he's actually a striker, probably best as a number 10.
Could only see him going somewhere in league one if it’s a loan. Perm would be to another championship club
McAtee was great last season, scored and assisted some important goals and clearly the fans took to him and he showed some guts to turn down Championship clubs to stay here in January. In my opinion, we can only really get one of him or DKD as they are both very similar. There is no real way of getting those 2 and Phillips in the same side so it is one or the other imo. If they are both the same value to buy, I would choose McAtee as we know he can do it at this level and was here last season so knows the club etc. plus he is younger so more re sale potential down the line. But, I don't see how we would be able to afford to buy McAtee, especially with so many others interested. I think the best we could hope for there is another loan. So if it is a case of another loan for McAtee, or buy DKD, I would much prefer to buy DKD and have someone we own rather than relying on loads of loans.
It was - ill have to see if I can find some footage on YouTube. Liam Dickinson - could never have been a footballer with his clown feet.
Totally agree. I think if Millwall or anyone else were in for him at that level, it would be permanently. To be honest, if McAtee isn’t going to play for Luton this season, will he ever? If I was him, I’d be looking to leave full time if he can’t prove himself enough this pre season.
A list of players that I don’t think any fan rated highly - I’m reading the point about McAtee that he is the most overrated amongst Barnsley fans themselves of our loan signings. There might be truth there. McAtee wasn’t awful but he didn’t pull many trees up either, he often appeared more likely to be booked for a daft late tackle than do much creative on any given day. That doesn’t mean he was terrible, it doesn’t mean he’s not a decent player - but I do think it’s fair to say he’s a bit overrated by some of our supporters and I don’t disagree to be honest. Though he did score 15 in 45 all comps, with five assists as well. It isn’t a shabby record - I just think some over play it a little. Wouldn’t be disappointed to sign him, but also wouldn’t be gutted if we didn’t and another league one side do.
You couldn't fault him for effort but he always seemed to miss chances when he had time to think yet scored when he didn't. Inconsistent but a 100% man unlike others in the side.
Not really true. They were deemed rubbish after their loan had done. Some highly rated big named players have been loaned for little return Iver the years. Macatee does not fall in to that category.
I fully expect him to stay at Luton this season. He might not play for them every week, but he's good enough for that level. At least until January anyway.
