We also have Wolfe on the books who has himself had long term injury issues. This may sound harsh but did we offer him a new contract this summer out of sympathy?
He's getting stick for something completely beyond his own control. If he was crap in a game, then I could comment adversely upon his efforts because he gets paid a lot of money to be of a certain standard. Even then, it's an opinion only on his football, and not his character. And I'm not always right. I have seen Benson in a couple of games be our best player. Do people see a bloke in a wheelchair and say "Are his bones made of ryvita and balsa wood"? I hope not.
Of course I don't say that. Benson is very unlucky with his injuries and my comment was tongue in cheek and meant without malice.
I would offer him a him a percentage of what’s left of his contract to free up a space for someone. I very much doubt he’d take it and sounds harsh but I imagine he’s one of our top earners and he’s barely played for us. Disaster of a signing. And no I’m not saying it’s his fault.
Sad to hear about Benson, but good to read that Pines may well get some time against Real Mallorca tomorrow. https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/29002/benson-to-miss-start-but-pines-progressing
I'm all for calling players out for lack of effort but some comments on here are beyond the pale does anyone seriously think the lads getting injured on purpose. I would imagine the worst thing about been a pro footballer is been injured and Benson had more than his fair share I think he deserves our support. There was a topic on here not long ago asking why players don't want to be here if you were a player would you want to be at a club who some fans at your lowest ebb put the boot in I certainly wouldn't.
Frustrating situation all round. Further evidence that spunking a load of money on a kid who had never proven his body could cope with the demands of a football league season was a daft decision
What would the comments be like, if it was Obbi Oulare still doing that here. Some players like him are 'questionable' regarding their fitness issues and all round attitude etc. But Im also sure though that Josh Benson hates this, and he just can't seem to get a good positive break.
All fair points so do you think we should be looking to extend his contract before other clubs come sniffing around him next summer?
Not sure weather that comment is tongue in cheek, obviously with Benson record a contract extension is highly unlikely but for people to take to hear to put the boot in about what we assume is another setback isn't called for surly.
