https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/28983/pub-with-historic-barnsley-fc-link-goes-up-for-sale Recently gone up for sale and may not stay a pub. I know it's like half a mile from Oakwell but as it's got history towards the Football club, could the club look to keep it running as a pub and call it our supporters club?
Our pre-match hangout. Great landlord and full of BFC memorabilia, but always the feeling it could be soooo much more on matchday. Like you say, Barnsley St Peters used it as a changing room so there is more than just a tenuous link to our history. I always had a secret hope @Loko the Tyke would turn up and buy it for Brewdog and turn it into a proper BFC theme pub
Been going in there for years pre match - sad times if that happens. Part of the problem recently though is it is advertised as away fan friendly which, while fine 75% of the time, it's very lairy and unpleasant when away fans travel in large numbers and effectively take over as its well known as a meeting point, safely out of town and welcoming. Don't know what the answer is on matchdays as they clearly get significant income from away fans but should be supported to keep going due to historic links as previously mentioned.
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/144759077#/?channel=COM_BUY Plenty of scope and potential at that price and far cheaper than a brand new alternative. Our club could have events happening there weekly and it's a known venue for our supporters with plenty of regulars.
The Dove could well be viable, it seems to be Old Mill ( the owners) who are not so viable, another of their pubs near me has also gone up for sale.
Great pub and always been my stopping pre-match, never seen any real trouble personally. But when it’s a big away following I do tend to go straight to the ground.
I wish I had the capital to take it over. I'd love a pub, and it'd be great to run one with such a good background with the football club, and turn it into something that celebrates it's heritage.
I park just up from there - always have - and its my go to pub for a pre match pint. Really hope something is sorted
Absolutely. The club could afford to buy it so they own the building. Not being attached to a brewery so having to buy off them it gives you more choice on what drinks to offer and helps keep prices down.
