Orsen may well be your new mode of travel come August.
Aalto (3.00) - dominant winner of a similar big-field seven furlong handicap last time out at Newmarket. Could be called the winner a long way from home. Ran off 88 there, only 2lbs here off 90. Handicapper now rates him 94 so he’s officially 4lbs well-in. Surprising he isn’t fav.

Abasheer (5.25) - runs off a turf rating 8lbs lower than his all-weather rating but he’s still very effective on turf. Ran really well over this course and distance last time out when 2nd of 17, very unlucky in running. Only 2 pounds higher here.

Flamborough Head is a deceptive traveller. Travels well but finds nothing when push comes to shove.

Only just watched the replay of the race. It's noticeable that the winner was actually behind Flamborough Head at the three-furlong pole. Some ride by Joanna Mason - daughter of Tim Easterby's cousin, I believe! What is also noticeable is that Flamborough Head was pulling early on and refused to settle. Racing Post reports: "Took keen hold, in touch with leaders, steady headway over 2f out, weakened over 1f out". And he has already been gelded. The sire, Ribchester won four Group 1's at a mile, but the dam, Seamisst proved useless in her two races. Having cost only 4k as a yearling, the chances are that Flamborough Head is a modest animal. That said, he had ten of the eighteen runners behind him, so perhaps Tim will find a small race for him somewhere.

On a more general note, the joint second favourite won the 6.05 race, but the other York winners went in at 20/1, 22/1, 8/1, 12/1 and 11/1. No Timeform top-rated horses won on the card. As I suspected, a very tough card to find a winner. But I didn't know whether to predict a riot!

My apologies, Mr Winker. I should have acknowledged this as a good call by yourself! Truth be told, I was taken up with Ascot in the afternoon and York (watching only) in the evening. And the latter was disrupted because my superiors insisted on watching the small boats event in Paris! Well done on a tidy winner, Mr W! :D

Well, believe it or not I backed Northern Express on Betfair. Wish Id posted the tip now as I usually do. Just thought he has vast experience of that type of event and holds his form well. Only had a fiver on him....

Well done, KCP. A very consistent horse, and a solid northern trainer/jockey combo. Paul Mulrennan's Mrs had tipped the York winner immediately preceding at 18/1, so one would imagine a jolly old time in the Mulrennan household tonight! :D

A nice performance from Friendly Soul, who now looks back on track and destined for better things. It can pay to forgive a horse one bad run, and as I expected, she went off shorter than the 5/1 available on Thursday following declarations. It was a very well-judged ride by Keiran Shoemark, who made all and drew the finish out of his rivals, particularly Soprano, whose finishing kick could only get her to within about three lengths of Friendly Soul. I think we may now see the best of Keiran, who has had to endure a difficult start to his role as first jockey to the stable. John Gosden has retained faith in him and there could be a profitable second half of the season awaiting the stable now their horses are running into some form.

Make Me King ran well. Although only sixth, he was beaten only one and a half lengths. James Doyle gave him every chance, but the handicapper may now have hold of him - he is due to go up by three pounds in the future. It's probably worth noting that his best performance, and two of his three wins have come on the all weather. He is going to be difficult to place from now on, but Listed/Group 3 looks to be about his level. His owners have better prospects for the Group 2 races.

The King George was a fascinating race, although it may have been that Ryan and Will Buick cut each others' throats contesting the pace from early. That said, Goliath looked much the best horse on the day under a typically cheeky ride from Soumillon. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard spoke very well after the race. He looks a rising star amongst the French training ranks. I hope some folks followed me in on Friendly Soul, even though I mangled the name. The double with Make Me King just eluded us, but we mustn't' get greedy! Some very good racing to come at Goodwood this week, of which more anon!

I was on Friendly Soul, thanks.

Also had a treble at Lingfield last night, small stake but returned £45. Along with Albasher in 5.25 at Ascot, it was a profitable day.
