I'm not a big Olympics fan, but I do watch Football, Rugby, etc., i.e. sports I already follow. I just watched the rugby. That M. Dupont is some sevens player. Watching NZL vs. USA at Soccer right now.
I'm the opposite @SFOTyke , I love watching the sports I don't follow. I loved the modern pentathlon for eg , but it's changed now without the showjumping part.
The show-jumping was the best part of it, as they had to ride horses drawn by ballot. Absolute carnage!
Great watch. The three medal events I’ve watched today have all been great, even the cycling time trial. Celebrated when we got a bronze in the diving when it looked like the Aussies were gonna pip us to it.
I always enjoy the hockey at the Olympics, seemed weird today watching Spain play long balls up in the air.
Did everybody notice the farcical end of Argentina's match, and eventual defeat to Morocco. They came off thinking it had finished 2-2, but then Var ruled out Argentina's goal while they were off the pitch. Then what seemed like ages later, they came back out to an empty stadium and finished the match. Morocco celebrated the 2-1 win, like they'd won the Fa Cup lol.
They really should change the football competition to 5 or 6 a side. Sevens fits in well at the Olympics because a gold medal is the pinnacle of the discipline.
Going back to London 2012 again, I wondered then if we'd ever see a mens Olympic G.B football team again. Couldn't we get a squad together, of 'B' internationals, or U23s, or U21s for example. I'm sure there are players at those lower levels who would jump at the chance to play in the Olympics.
I'm same, love the Olympics. Chance to watch a load of sports I don't usually watch. And the athletics is the absolute highlight, although I do follow that all year round. I tend to ignore the football/tennis etc, unless there's a Brit involved in the later rounds.
Bits of the iron from when they did the renovations of the Eiffel tower are in the medals - love this idea!
I think it's something to do with the fact that the countries involved all have their own FAs etc, and a place at the international table, and they're concerned that independence with FIFA and UEFA may be taken away.
Well yeah there is that, and I have heard fans say that before, but its a shame. I suppose they allowed the London G.B team to happen as a one-off then, as it was in our own country.
One of them, err I think the Aussie one lol, looked like she was diving for a penalty. And the officials refused to go to Var!.
