Peoples obsession is laughable. He was bang average. Collins left on the bench for him was a joke at the time and even more now. Ones a championship goalie. Others at Burton.
Supposedly going to be second choice at Burton too, which I think is true. Dont think he would start over Crocombe.
100%. McAtee was decent. Scored a couple of great goals but doesnt warrant whats probably going to be a million pound price tag.
I think he only has a year left, but he probably is worth that amount mate. The lad from Mansfield, they're wanting 750k apparently for him, McAtee has at least proven he can do it in this league, despite us playing cack football at that too. Imagine in a half decent pressing side. Just check some of the other fees clubs are paying around us for bang average players, its disturbing.
I think that their "real" value is around £2 million a piece, but I'd hope we'd be asking a lot more than that. Phillips is one of the oddest BFC players ever. Pretty much does nothing apart from scoring or creating goals. He's not lazy, but his tackling is abominable. Got booked a couple of times last season for attempts to win the ball which were easily as bad as his lunge at Wembley. I don't believe that he's remotely malicious, he's just absolutely crap at tackling. But if he only touches the ball 5 times in a game and comes out of it with a goal and an assist, that'll do for me. I remember a certain Mr C Hignett spending much of a match against Walsall walking up and down the wing. We were absolutely terrible, and Hignett was probably the worst of the lot. In fact, the only thing of note he did all game was to score a hat-trick.
McAtee is a good player who gives his all on the pitch, chasing down everything and sliding in. He scored some memorable goals. He was deservedly a fan favourite. But to take off the rose tinted glasses, there were many matches last season where he did nothing and when presented with a chance, scuffed his shot tamely to the keeper. He missed some absolute sitters. So he was neither great or rubbish. He was decent. I'm hopeful the recruitment team can get someone as good or better.
...and his last goal of that hat-trick was to smash a high dipping ball over the keeper from some 20 to 25 yards out in the very last minute of the game if i recall correctly, some player!!..........sithi.
In the other thread about this, everyone seems to have the same opinion as you, so where is this "obsession" thing come from? https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/harry-isted-having-a-medical.331773/
It was some finish, even though Walsall's keeper that day was a midget (by goalie standards at least!)
Don't think he was far off his line either, can't recall his height mind , don't think I've seen the tv footage for a good 20 years..............sithi.
Just been looking for in on YouTube and can't find it. I'm sure someone on here must have a crackly VHS recording with a very excited Dave Copping commentating. @tingleytyke has quite a bit of video footage iirc?
On about average loanees, Dyke. I mean I liked the lad and his passion in the shirt, but at the time I would've chosen Morris over Daryl. Towd Carlton scored more for us and he was a permanent. In the end Morris ended up in the Prem, and Dyke is struggling with injuries at an average Champ West Brom side
It's called opinion. Some would say you are joking. Including I suppose, MD. Who stuck by him, btw Walton was better than Coliins. Imo of course.
Nice one. That's my entertainment for the rest of the morning sorted! Had planned to go cycling and to the gym!
