Apart from been probably the best player on the field in the home semi v bolton his pressing game was spot on. But still folk round me said go to him Cole wanting him to run around like a headless chicken.
Very average player. Duff gave him confidence I thought but Collins soon knocked that out of him. Flatters to deceive.
I think its understandable if he or any player, wants a move elsewhere, and also doesn't want to risk it by getting injured. But when that means its a refusal to put the effort in from February onwards. thats what annoys fans so much.

Very true. I think it's incredibly rare that a player just doesn't care or doesn't try on the pitch. People were adamant he just gave up because he had a contract elsewhere. I think it's just his style. When Ronaldo just recently played at the Euros, he was like a statue. The way Cole played worked for a while, but personally I think all his confidence got sapped and struggled to get anything back. I just think he's a decent league one striker who will have purple patches, I just don't think he goes from working hard to lazy when he fancies it
In the first 10 games while he still had the confidence and belief installed in him by Duff. For the rest of the season Phillips easily out scored him.
Not sure it was a confidence issue although after new year I felt sorry for any striker we had the tactic of pass around the back 4 then a hoof was awful to watch and wasn't to devantes or macatees strength.
But in the second part of the season McAtee managed to find a way to score goals as he has a lot of self belief. Cole is very much a confidence player and earlier in the season he was picking the ball up in our half running at the opposition and scoring. Once that confidence was gone he reverted to lower league journeyman. It’s unfortunate for him that we didn’t sell in Jan.
Many of macatees goals were worldies down to him as a individual than great team goals. Macatee would lob the keeper from 30 yards and then miss a open goal. End of the day I've watched us for nearly 30 year I've seen loads of better strikers than Cole and I've seen loads of worse. I wish him well took alot of unwarranted criticism for me which probably didn't do his confidence much good.
