    Eight people, including a number of children, have been injured in a stabbing in a town.

    Merseyside Police said officers were called to a "major incident" at a property on Hart Street in Southport at about 11:50 BST.

    The force said armed police "detained a male and seized a knife" and there was "no wider threat to the public".

    North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said they had treated eight patients with stab injuries and some had been taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital."

    The rumours going round social media is 6 kids were stabbed and sadly one has died but nothing has been confirmed yet. The perpetrator has been arrested and weapon seized at the scene of the crime.

    Really is a sad, sad day for this country and we need to start having a tougher stance on knife crime and the free/easy distribtuion of knives here.

    It is illegal for a nursery to employ someone without an enhanced DBS check. All staff will have one if it is indeed a nursery that has been targeted.

    Just be aware far right groups on X sharing images of the guy who committed the stabbings in France last year and saying it's from today. They're trying as best they can to make this about Tommy Robinson being arrested.

    Don't believe what you read on the internet. The truth, whatever it is, will come out in good time.

    If people have never done owt wrong in the past a DBS isn't much use.
