Ohh yeah that was him, I remember thinking how decent he was at first, he looked like a promising signing.
I don't know if we had the option to buy him, or whether we just couldn't afford him, or whether we just said no thanks!.

We definitely couldn’t afford to sign him permanently.

Alledgedly his wage was the biggest Patrick Cryne ever paid

I used to run through Pittsmoor every day (going back about 15 years) and it wasn't that bad. Large Muslim community, but it felt similar to any other area. Wybourn on the other hand was like the imagining of Detroit from Robocop. Every second window was bordered up.

This is horrendous. Career ruined. He rightly deserves huge compensation.

How grainy must the cctv have been for them to insist it was him whilst he says it clearly wasn’t?

And he wasn’t at the train station in the first place?

Suppose we shouldn’t be quick to castigate. I didn’t on this occasion but have been guilty of the same on others.

Hopefully he can recover mentally from it, whether getting a football gig or not.

Don't think it would have gone to court based on the CCTV footage, but he was also picked out in a police lineup.

There have been countless studies that show eye witness testimony, particularly correctly identifying people you've not previously seen before the incident, is not very reliable. Not sure what we're supposed to do as a society about that inconvenient truth though.

With being shown the footage so long after it allegedly happened will have made it much harder for him to prove his innocence by trying to remember where he was or might have been at the time.

Hope he can return to a normal life. Sometimes mud sticks from the ones who shout the loudest. Hope he sue's the police, sounds like incompetence or corruption to clear a case off the files.

He's been talking on Radio Sheffield, when he appealed he had his training and match info which shows it was impossible for him to be at the station. If that was the case why didn't the club back him up?

He wasn’t prepared at the first case. He thought that the CCTV would be shown and as it wasn’t actually him that he would obviously be cleared. I’m presuming the club didn’t know the specifics around timings etc. and saw that he was convicted and understandably let him go. Or they just didn’t want any drama and thought it was easier to just get rid.

Either he didn't bother with a lawyer or he had an absolutely ***** one.

Lawyer with a Brain (LWB): were you there at the train station when the incident took place?
    ST:No
LWB: do you have a mobile phone?
    ST: Yes
LWB: did you have you mobile phone on you when the incident took place?
    ST: Yes
LWB: and were you with people who could testify they were with you when the incident took place?
    ST: Yes
LWB: Just give me a sec <picks up his/her phone and calls the station> "Hello, I'd like to speak to the person in charge of this investigation"

    THE END.

That’s what I kept saying to Will when watching that it shows the importance of a good lawyer. He, being innocent, believed that that was enough. He knew he wasn’t there, he could tell it wasn’t him and he expected the truth to win.
