I know it was rebranded as one of YT's final acts, but looking at it today makes me think still that there is something going off behind the scenes. Are we really that understaffed? It's a digital age. Young kids no longer walk down to the training pitch with autograph books in school holidays in the numbers they used to - they want news and gossip at the press of a button.
We're a league one club but of a decent reputation and standing. Last night's game at Guiseley got minute-by-minute comms digital updates from the home team yet we seem to have not sent anyone (yes, I guess it was a bigger game for them). There is very little by the way of media updates. Is that because there is little to talk about or is it because we have nobody to do it. Now I know Andy and Chris were much more senior than merely 'twitter updaters' but they were still part of the wider digital team. Has that team collapsed?

We have added silhouettes of Hourihane and Roberts, yet we still have Shaw and Dallas as forwards. No silhouette of a new keeper and not a single player in the U21, U18 or Ladies teams.
It smacks of laziness or understaffing, and that is not an accusation of laziness of the people who are actually left.

This is not a club bashing thread, but after all these years of supporting the team, the couple of weeks before a new season is NORMALLY when the child-like excitement and butterflies kick in for me. As it stands I feel nothing, and my only emotion this week thus far has been struggling with the decision to buy an ST and I really wish I had gone pay-on-the-day.

 

The whole social media setup is **** as well. Someone put on here Rotherham game had been moved then the Huddersfield game. Then every team update their fans yet we send a Tweet out a while after everyone else.

There’s been no coverage of any of the ‘Barnsley XI’ games and the link was never shared for the Mallorca game. Last Tuesday night we played Gainsborough and took three fans. There were no advertisement for the game. Same with last night.

Pre season has been a shambles again. Three public friendlies, our only home one against Derby County on a Wednesday night and recruitment playing wise has been poor once again.

I might be dramatic but we’re so tinpot sometimes.

I'm as much critical of comms. And have told em face to face. Some pick up news items possibly b4 the club. And is it really an issue. Not for most I suspect.
If the club didnt announce the game at Guisley fair enough. But regular updates. Is it really an issue. A friendly. ?

I didn't expect minute by minute comms of a Guiseley match - but I would have thought a starting X1 or acknowledgement of the game or even a 'thanks to our opponents and good luck' might have been there.

I don't bairn for the sake of it.

 

I think it's an issue that our opponents announced hours before we did that one of our home games had been moved.

Hence my last sentence mate. Lots wanting BFC up to the minute updates. For a friendly i assume most are not interested and I'm guessing sending an employee to such games, in effect an academy friendly costs more than it's worth. Fans do it via here or X. Does it really matter that the club sometimes don't ? .
As for the squad updates re photos I'd guess they are waiting as long as poss. Those shown are obviously ones that were taken last season. And still at the club when published. (I'm guessing the last bit mind as no published date as I can see)
I'm guessing you're quite young in comparison to me lol. Those day of butterflies are long gone.

 

I'd take this offline with you mate and discuss it with you in the stadium - trouble is you don't sit still long enough ;-)

It’s really poor on the comms front all amateur, the thing that frustrates me is having to close the season ticket advert every time.

There's no result for the Mallorca game either, that 's in minus 5 days

The media output is now worse than your average semi pro team.

It can only be due to lack of staff/resource.

Get ready for the inevitable vacancy posting for a Media and Comms Exec, expected to work evenings and weekends for the princely sum of £22,500 P/A

 

I don't worry what goes off pre season and get excited tbh. I like the break. Games make me a nervous wreck even if winning by a good margin. (That happens rarely) I don't dwell b4 or after regardless of result. One guy I used to stand behind in my terrace days used to kick and head every ball. I've noticed missen heading one or 2 of late.

 

Very poor in comparison with other clubs, even lower down the football pyramid.

Annoying thing about it, is the numerous times communication has been raised in QnA's, Fans Forums etc and they basically just half heartedly agree that they can improve. It isn't happening though.

So this post is 100% on this particular topic a club bashing one.

Get the new FAB team on it.

 

Years ago, our media wasn't very good. And then it improved dramatically. But right now, it's literally almost non existent. An afterthought, or dare I say, an inconvenience.
Comms is one if the things that we should expect to be decent.

Nobody is wanting a blow by blow account, but we do want significantly better than what we are getting right now that's for sure.

 

Agree fully with this. The website is dire and the coms have been extremely poor this pre season. I don’t expect much but when you compare us to other teams they just seem to do so much more.

Get some players in front of the cameras, quick fire questions on their way back to the dressing room from training. That sort of thing. Get a couple of the kids from Barnsley college in for experience and let them conduct some interviews or something.

 

With 2 key people 'leaving'... Who is left to do these sorts of comms?

I can understand not all player profiles are up to date, at least til they do the official team photo. But it just seems like a lot of really basic stuff is slipping through the cracks. People come and go all the time, but given notice periods, you'd very much expect replacements to be already in place for these sort of jobs. If we have got replacements in, they need managing more effectively... If we haven't got replacements, we're either struggling to recruit or not intending to recruit.
