He's 78 today. A very important figure in BFC history imo - everything changed when he became manager in 1978, his arrival and influence on the club were what ended the lean years. Wouldn't it be great if the club could get him back to Oakwell and on the pitch before a game or at half time so fans could recognise him one more time?
When it all started 'properly' for us, soooo many fond memories of that time. Can't we make him a freeman of Oakwell so he can graze his sheep on the pitch or summat!
Sniffer the legend. Big misstake him taking the job at Leeds. Our benefit as we had the best manager in my lifetime take over. Norman bites your legs Hunter.
Now we’ve another Clarkie on board it would be brilliant to get the two of them on the pitch together, maybe before the Mansfield match. On the centre spot doing that one armed salute to the crowd just like Allan introduced on his arrival in August 1978.
Gave us the momentum in the late 70's that ultimately got us near the top of the second tier. He definitely helped turn round a club in the doldrums.
Although I had been going for a while before he came I still feel his arrival was the start of what we now see as the modern BFC that we all kno and love. would be my choice... ( Even over Danny) for THE top Manager ever..
And let him know we'd love to see him back on the centre circle one day soon. If Callum Simpson has a week off, that is.
Being a Normy lad, I used to watch him week in week out at Leeds, then I met a Royston girl, Clarkey came to Barnsley and the rest is history. As has been said he set the benchmark for what happened from there on
