A proven goalscorer or a proven goalscorer at this level or higher? Because I'd be amazed if we sign the latter. We live in hope, though.
He's only started 14 league games for us and he's scored 7 goals. In total he's started 45 league games and scored 26 goals.
Watters is an enigma of a signing, came on loan in January 2023 and in those 19 games scored 4. I doubt anyone would have thought wow this kids going to light it up let's give him a four year contract apart from those in charge at Oakwell. His first full season as a permanent player was pretty poor with minimal impact on the pitch either from starting or coming on as sub. 3 goals from his 24 appearances hardly points to a successful season. On top of the poor scoring record his all round play is pretty ineffectual too. I hope he can prove me wrong and goes on to smash it this year but the evidence so far suggests anything but. Probably more reflective of the club's financial state and the lack of funds to bring in anyone to replace him.
Great stats to be fair when you look in terms of games started. Could be misleading though. I wonder how his goals split up in terms of those scored when he starts and those scored as a sub?
I hope you are right, Jay. I suspect Watter's confidence was a problem last season, so hopefully, the new gaffer can build him up, and he gets an early goal or two.
I don't know for sure they'll come good. But I do believe we've got more potential in these two players than most clubs in League 1 have with their strikers. I'd still like us to sign at least one more striker, I just don't think things are as bleak right now as many believe.
Deffo confidence. If he is goal-less after first 3 games his head will drop and he will remain goal-less. But if he scores in his first 3 games it could be a bumper season for him. I wonder
Presumably he'll be cheap. I don't think he'll be brought in instead of any of our striker targets, but additionally, mainly to play 21s and EFL trophy games. If he makes an impression mind, I imagine he'll get his opportunity in the first team. Similar to the lad from Sheff U we've signed.
We've been in this position before. Conlon, Stallard, Betsy, Fallon... I just hope we drop on another Chopra loan, instead of a Boulding
I think on that front, Davis Keillor-Dunn is the best we could realistically hope for. Had a great season in league 2 last year. I hope we hear more news on that soon.
I really rate Cosgrove. I thought he started to show a lot of his potential in the second half of last season. As demonstrated in the play off games, if we get the supply right to him, he'll score goals. I'm not convinced by Watters though, as much as I'd like to be.
Wow indeed but probably better options than the defence we had for the first part of last season. Hoping for a Nardiello/Chopra/Fletcher loan type signing to provide more quality.
Looking forward to the multi million pound sales of Watters and Cosgrove in January as they prove everyone wrong in the first half of the season.
If Cosgrove gets injured or doesn't score enough, are we relying on Jalo all season. I don't wanna pay good money to watch Watters pretend to be a footballer.
Or playing second fiddle. May have dampened their spirits. I hope (if that was the case) so, if we are starting with em. If not performing it may be very hard for em to move on in the future.
