I love Cotter. But I just think he was trying to be a bit too flashy tonight. He just needs to get his foot on the ball. And when he did, he was a bit over cautious, over delaying crosses into the box, and regularly going backwards when he'd had an opportunity to get a ball in. I thought Lofthouse and Jalo showed much more endeavor to get the ball in.
Agree with most of that except the James Collins thing. Granted he scored, but it was due to our defensive **** up, and he was as ineffective as Watters in the rest of the time he was on the pitch.
Can anyone tell me what’s happened with Jalo? Does it seem to be a serious one? Positive comments by most tonight, I’ll take that.
I'd have to watch it back, but I thought he hit in a few really good deep crosses. He was a bit flashy, but I don't mind that if it's in the right areas of the pitch. took his man on plenty and had a few really skillful touches. Losing the ball when you're a bit maverick comes with the territory, but I thought he did a good job.
Scoring 4 today proves we don't need a striker either, so that's good news, we will be able to spend elsewhere...
Got taken out buy Cashin and landed heavily on his shoulder. Hopefully he was taken off as a precaution as he lifted his arm and rotated it whilst laid on the ground, but they used his shirt as a makeshift sling when he came off, so fingers crossed. He'd been excellent.
It wasn't necessarily a lack of pace that cost us for Mendez-Liang's second goal, the one-two was effective and crisp, but if you watch the replay, Mendez-Liang played the first pass and ran, O'Keefe just stood and watched him run off him, MDG wasn't tight enough to Yates either, just poor concentration for that imo. That third goal was down to Killip doing something insane.
Got behind Cashin down the right, who cleaned him out. Clear foul and should have been a penalty. Landed on his shoulder and appeared to be in a lot of pain. Looks like a potential dislocation.
I get what you’re saying but the space behind our wingbacks can be alarming although it’s normally the main problem with teams that play this system and it’s something that I’m sure Clarke will be trying to sort out
Only saw the 2nd half but it was a fun game! The scoreline shows you what went well and what didn’t. So many positives. Reckon young Craig is a proper player. Lofthouse and Jalo (injury permitting) will be assets. And Barry Cotter actually looked something vaguely resembling a footballer! I was impressed that the subs were actually impacting the game too. When teams make loads of changes these pre season games normally die a death, but no, we looked dangerous. I’d still like a proper LWB and another striker but certainly reasons to be cheerful.
Seeing as it was only a pre season friendly, I thought that was a great game actually. And I think we've got more to be positive about, than negative, after that. And hey, if a lot of our League One games are going to be like that this season, then I think we're going to have an entertaining season. Whether that means it will be a successful one though, is another argument altogether.
DC has confirmed Jalo injured and came off the field in tears. Hopefully there is a bit of pressure put on the recruitment team this week now.
I thought tonight was very encouraging and we benefitted from the experience of Conor and Robbo - can’t wait for next Friday.
I thought Jalo showed just how important it is to have someone that can beat a man and really open games up. Hopefully we can bring in a player or two with similar attributes.
Need to have a word with that Derby lad, absolutely no need for that challenge in a friendly really. God knows how long he's going to be out for, gutted for the lad, he's had a strong preseason as well.
That's awful, I was hoping it was precautionary, and just looked worse than it was. What sort of absence could he be looking at then, do we know ?.
