Maybe he has not been given his chance because he is not good enough? Several managers have been here and none have picked him for a run in the team. They all see him day in day out and training and have obviously decided he is not up to the level to start. He has also been out on loan a few times to national league clubs and was not able to hold down a starting spot there or score loads of goals.
Thought we looked great going forward yesterday. Watters, Jalo and Marsh all made positive contributions and all offered something different. Cosgrove had a quiet game, but didn't do anything wrong, it's just the first half was much tighter than the second. Didn't look like we were in desperate need of a striker. The defence on the other hand... shambolic. All the same deficiencies as last season, but without the pace of Williams to get us out of trouble and without the cautious approach of Collins to protect them. They were entirely exposed and they're all so slow they're just torn apart.
Repeating myself but it isn't coincidence that strikers fail to score goals at Barnsley. Until we get back to basics and play direct football they won't be a success in the weight of goals they ought to get. By direct I don't mean hoofball either.
I don't think it's a particularly realistic option, as I'd be surprised if he didn't get a Championship club, but Tyrese Campbell has been released by Stoke. Still only 24. Son of Kevin. He was highly thought of about 4/5 years ago but has struggled with injuries, and then form, leading to him leaving Stoke. Seemed to have a few goalscoring purple patches throughout his career, and iirc scored a couple against us when the season restarted in 2020. I've always really rated him. He'd been linked to West Brom prior to them signing Cole, but that seems to have gone quiet. It'd be a shame if he tipped up somewhere like Birmingham or Huddersfield.
I agree that we've got to give players a fair crack at it before we give up on them otherwise what's the point, other side of the coin is that they might turn out not to be good enough and could ultimately cost Clarke his job. Probably seems sensible to bring in one quality striker maybe an experienced one for a season or two.
Dale Taylor from Forest. Did well at Burton season before last and was good last season for Wycombe. Type of player to compliment what we’ve got around the squad. Think we also need experience and proven at this level which would Freddie Ladapo from Ipswich. Won two recent promotions from this level. Would have liked to have gone for Ruel Sotiriou from Orient but he’s ended up at Bristol Rovers, who by the way will end up there this season.
For me, in regards to recruitment, we need one or two players who can actually beat a man. One who’s ready to turn the first guy and run at the next, trickery, skill, creativity. Who was the last player who had this? Morris? And before that Hammill?
Maybe we are struggling for signings because of what's in this thread. First I've hears of this Stephanie our players don't like.
They're discussing the escapades of an allegedly mentally ill female BFC enthusiast. According to some of the posts, this person (female fan) has been banned by the club for making spurious claims about current and ex players. Claiming to be pregnant with a previous LWB's baby, couple of other recently ex-reds made formal complaints about her. She clearly needs help, not ridicule. Unfortunately, X, just as this is, is the internet, so no compassion or help will be forthcoming.
Yes, completely agree. She has autism and clearly something is happening. Not sure if it's possible, but according to that thread shes banned from travelling away and is allowed at Oakwell. She claims she doesn't need a carer, but perhaps instead of outright banning her (if it gets to that), maybe the club can arrange so shes allowed to stay in and watch the reds at Oakwell, but must be accompanied by someone who is a carer, social worker, professional whatever. It seems clear to me she isn't malicious from what I've seen but obviously the health and support of the lads need to be a priority too, certainly when its several of them
