Always wondered what had happened to Sid Waddell. Turns out he got a job commentating on the trampolining.
Helen has been consistently bigoted on here against trans people in the past, so unfortunately not that surprising. JK Rowling Syndrome.
Standing up for hard won women's rights is not the same as being anti trans in the same way as criticising the Israeli government isn't the same as being anti semitic.
just wonder why we never ever have any threads on here about supporting trans men. And how we can get them to be able to compete in men's sports.
There are transmen competing in mens sports. Not many of them are good enough to be at the top level but some are: Chris Mosier is a female to male who made the USA Duathlon team after competing as a woman in triathlon Balian Buschbaum is a retired pole vault who competed as a woman then a man Schuyler Bailar is a former NCAA Div 1 swimmer after FTM transitioning Kye Allums played mens NCAA Div 1 basketball after transitioning Quinn got a soccer gold medal at Tokyo at the first non-binary, out transgender athlete at an Olympics Mack Beggs is a wrestler Ness Murby is a paralympics thrower Keelin Godsey is a hammer thrower Good luck to them all.
You’re literally helping spread hate to a woman because she looks too masculine. Purely because it helps with the agenda against trans people.
I think it would be good if we all just pause here and remember (on all sides) that this isn't even a trans issue. But it is part of a very delicate and divisive subject. We don't need to turn on each other for having genuine, reasonable but differing opinions. We should also remember that the woman in question is currently a victim of insane transphobic abuse spearheaded by high profile figures including JK Rowling, Elon Musk & Logan Paul - All of whom have misgendered her as a man. Their shared influence circle is pushing a billion people. That's horrific. The concerns of qualification to compete as a female athlete are very real and noone should make light of people expressing those concerns. But we should also remember that the origins of this accusations are from a source that is hardly considered reliable and others are concerned that this woman does not actually hold an unfair advantage but is instead victim of a smear campaign relating, in part, to her 'non-femine' appearance.
Totally respecting Redhelen's views and could never accuse her of being 'bigoted' and a tad cheap BR to reference the 'JK Rowling syndrome' The present 'boxing issue' is complex but in the wider context the whole of women's sport is under threat.
Go look at the nonsense the likes of JK Rowling have been spreading for years trying to humiliate and attack trans people. Calling them pedophiles, predators, groomers etc.
I did after you made the "JK Rowling syndrome" comment. Haven't seen any comment where she has said Trans people are pedophiles, predators, groomers etc. Please point me at those comments.
It's been a feature of rowing for a long time. When I was an active rower in the early 90s there were lightweight crews. Ironically, this is the last Olympics where the lightweight category will be included, as it won't feature in the 2028 games.
In fairness she was reprimanded earlier this year for focusing on trans women that had been convicted of pedophilia and sex crimes as evidence that all trans women should be referred to as men. It's as bad a take as "all *insert religion or race* people are evil." JK is a very bad example as she is an utterly toxic woman with an anti-trans agenda and at times her deranged treatment of vulnerable young LGBTQ people is undoubtedly harmful to the cause she claims to champion... It creates mass sympathy for the opposing view. Helen is nothing like that. She talks with rational thought and common sense I. A hugely difficult subject. I don't always fall to the same opinion but I respect her reasoning.. and her calm, respectful approach in expressing it.
Again having a Google it seems she was reported under Scotland hate crime laws but the Police decided she had committed no criminal offence. Having a hard time finding the comments in question though. I've only been vaguely aware of JK stuff and so have never really looked into the comments too deeply. Lot of articles saying how evil she is but very little in the way of direct quotes. Can't find a comment where she said all trans women should be referred to as men. Found some where she speaks about Trans women in female prisons. And some around transitioning of minors. Which are both very extreme subjects so I can understand a diverse reaction on them. But no blanket statements. Not saying they don't exist just can't find any.
