Yeah, they realised that they need a boat to compete. So they had to get the ferry back home. :)

I can never get all the trophies, so I rarely get platinums.

It's a pity, thought Beth got a bad start and was crowded out between the Canadian and American. Thought it woud be close, the Australian had dominated her races like Beth had.

It brings back good happy memories, of when the Bmx bike craze happened in the mid 80s. :)

Once again, the BBC coverage is poor. It's about 70% talking/interviewing etc, meanwhile we don't get to see any athletics.

Question, why does Michael Johnson to tv for us rather than a station in America?

Yeah I have also wondered that.
But I like Johnno, and think its good that he does team up with the Beeb.

I suppose it would be mote accurate to say Girls born with XY chromosomes are genetically boys but for a variety of reasons – mutations in genes that determine sexual development – the male characteristics are never expressed. They live their lives as girls and then women, and a few can even give birth.

Hey Rich, following on from those other Olympic memories, what about South Korea '88.
Ben Johnson winning the mens 100m, and getting caught and sent home as a drugs cheat!.
That helped Linford Christie move up to Bronze, and the always impressive Carl Lewis getting Gold.
Flo Jo and her weird massive coloured finger nails lol.
Greg Louganis the American diver, bashing his head on the board. That could have been a lot worse.
Adrian Moorhouse winning Gold in the swimming, even though his dad didn't seem to think so at first lol.
And the best one was our mens Hockey team winning Gold. And Barry Davies saying.. "and its there, Britain have scored... where were the Germans... but frankly, who cares!". :D

Weird that you mention Louganis as I was only telling the wife about him today as one of the divers in the men's synchro final got dangerously close to the board.

Ben Johnson, when you saw him it was so obvious he was pumped on drugs, same as Maradona in 94.

Johnson said of course, that the Gold medal was more important to him than breaking the World record. Because as he thought, nobody can take a Gold medal away from you!.
It wasn't a lifetime ban though was it, although he was never the same again after it.
And speaking of Carl Lewis, it impressed me that he used his speed to compete in the Long jump as well. Did any other 100m and 200m speed runners, do that ?.

Stacks over the years, not many as good a sprinter as Lewis though....Two notable exceptions would be women...Fanny Blankers Koen and Heike Drechsler spring to mind.

Remember Linford got pulled for taking Ginseng, and he escaped punishment because its not a 'performance enhancing substance'.
You could say he was naive and maybe a bit lucky though after all!.
