Just thought I'd mention something related to football (crazy, I know). Some guy on twitter who appears to be Keillor-Dunn's biggest fan has recently posted something rather cryptic.
They're on the verge of signing another striker. I reckon it's in reference to that. Someone 'ITK' on their forum has checked with his source, and as of last night, we'd still not met their valuation for DKD.
I reckon he'll go before the window closes, whether it's to us or not, I'm not so sure. I wonder if we're waiting on a certain someone leaving the club before we go in with an improved bid, though the longer it drags on, the less likely I think we are to bring him in.
Not sure where he’d play for us to be honest. He plays behind the strikers in a similar position to Adam Phillips. The only way I can see us signing him is if we’re selling Phillips.
From what I've read, he often played a bit more advanced than that last season, similar to McAtee. We don't appear to be linked with many traditional strikers at the minute, as Kieron Bowie is more of a wide striker, so maybe we're looking at players who could play in a number of forward positions. Clarke has changed formation mid game in a couple of friendlies. Maybe we're looking at how to be more adaptable from 352, to 442, to 4231 etc.
Good point to be fair. Really can’t see us stumping up the kind of money they’d be looking for though. Heard £750k mentioned and there’s no way we’ll be paying that without selling someone. We’ll see….
In my opinion we should be paying that though. In 2024, 750K for a player who's apparently highly rated, isn't a lot of money. The club needs to sit down and ask itself some questions, does paying 750K for DKD get us closer to getting promotion? Promotion that's worth many multiples of that 750K. Do we want promotion? If we do, we need better players, better players cost money. Are we trying to go up? If any of those answers are yes, then yes, we should be paying that. Let's have it right, 750K in installments (more than likely) isn't going to bankrupt the club. We need a player for that position, we also need a quality one. DKD fits that bill perfectly. Go and get him before he gets his head turned and a team come in and just have a feel down the back of the sofa for 750K.
I don’t think £750k will be out of reach bearing in mind we’ve still got installments for Mads, Kitching etc coming in.
I struggle to see how that would be the case given the amount brought in last season in sales etc. plus the money saved from the wages we moved on this summer as well as the higher sky money coming in this season due to the new EFL/Sky deal thing.
Be reight. 3/4 of a mil for a player who has barely played at this level is a bit of a punt. Almost Birminghamesque....
As far as I'm aware, the board are still putting a huge chunk of money in just to keep us going. The transfer money we received last summer was in installments, and whilst the wage bill will undoubtedly be lower this year, I'd say we're not particularly 'cash rich' so to speak. Maybe we're playing it cautious to try and get him cheaper than they want to sell him for. Again, it's all guesswork. I don't like the idea though that we should just pay the asking price though, as that could cause us to miss out on other targets.
Every player is a punt at the end of the day. Look at Man U throwing 80M plus on Antony. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. But when you look into players, listen to the fans' opinion of them for their current club it's a good indicator. People saying he's the best player that's ever played for Mansfield etc etc way back when when we were signing Hourihane, Winnall, Scowen, Bradshaw...all highly rated by their clubs and fans. We must have 750K in saved wages alone from Cole and Kane. Come on now guys! It's an exciting thing, enjoy it! We've been conditioned through years of negative financial talk from the Club that we haven't got ¾ of a million quid?? Come off it! Go and get him!
I think the 750k just comes from that was the Macauley Longstaff reported fee from Notts to Millwall.. So folk think we'll have to at least match.. Darragh McAntony on Talksport yesterday mentioned Mansfield (and Stockport for that matter) are not short of a few quid.. Signing players like Aiden Flint and Lee Gregory kinda backs that up.. If Mansfield do already have 'a few bob' then he ain't going to be cheap.. My guess for what it's worth is we tried a couple of weeks back.. got a knock back and have moved onto other targets
But surely if all other clubs are signing our players on installments we can do same so don't have to drop a nice chunk all at once. If we don't have the funds or means to structure the funds for someone likely to cost around 750k after this new big Sky deal and the 11+ million agreed revenue from last season I am seriously worried. Not asking for too much of a stretch here, just asking for a bit of investment for what seems a great player. Not like we are asking for them to go rival Birmingham in the bid for Stansfield.
