Yesterday on Facebook I received a message request from someone whose name I did not recognise. I asked who they were and they promptly changed their name to that of an ex-colleague. Here is the ongoing saga…
Wenlock Terrace, eh? That took me back - that used to be where my GP's surgery was when I lived round the corner on Alma Terrace, 35 years ago.
Only went in a few times. Used to walk a bit further up to town to the Edinburgh Arms for the pool table and spent a fair amount of time in the Waggon and Horses on Hull Road/Laurence Street. Other than than that spent all my time in the Golden Fleece cos my mate worked there.
I liked the Welly because it was dirt cheap and about 20 yards from my student house but I wouldn't choose it today (I suppose it chose me, really). I moved on to The Brown Cow for a bit, which was a Timmy Taylor's pub at the time, and played for their pool team, but latterly it was always The Golden Ball. From 1994 to 2004 I had a house on Howard Street, just before you get to the Lighthorseman (aka the Shitehorseman), but Alma Terrace was the first place I lived outside of Home or University accommodation and I have very fond memories of it.
