Smaller business and market stalls round the markets area in Donny advised to close by police due to rumoured Far Right action in that part of the city centre this afternoon. Mrs is working in the Donny paddy power to help out as they’re short staffed. She’d usually be in the Rotherham store. Police have just been in to speak to her. They are staying open.
Thought all the riots were 8 pm? Things like shops/offices can stay open until 5 ish as usual without being shut all day. Bookies/pubs/bars that's different.
Office where wife works in Tarn not opening tomorrow, told to work from home. John Rideal House, Govt building on Shambles Street
Police acting on ‘intelligence’ that suggests Donny action might well be much earlier than that. Hope not, she can get out of there and home if nothings kicked off by 5:30. Bloody typical it’s the one day she’s there too. Don’t want to sound selfish, her colleagues would still be there, but we have three kids and she doesn’t need to be caught in the crossfire of those animals. You’d think a bookies given it will have plenty of cash in there would be an early target for those of them more interested in vandalism and theft than the cause they purport to be protesting over.
Bookies can afford to shut a bit earlier than usual AND pay their staff full pay to clock off early. Hope everyone gets home safely.
Why risk it by staying open? Seems bonkers to me mate. Surely they won’t get much trade anyway if people are aware of trouble and stay away? I hope she stays safe. These arseholes need to realise everyone is important to somebody and calm the eff down.
That would require them to have more than 1 braincell between them. The fact they're out at a nazi rally proves they don't.
Literally biting the hand that feeds them. Shame they aren't paid in giros these days if John Rideal House is being targeted, assuming it's still DWP.
Cohen's Chemists are all closing tomorrow (according to Friends Of Dodworth), even on Dodworth High Street.
Barnsley council are not telling businesses to close, some have taken and have distributed letters and emails for support and advice. Why the fekk should any one be afraid to walk the streets of town cos of the fear created by these supposed protesting, given they know they will be infiltrated by the far right thugs. It's our town not theirs. Those wishing to peacefully protest. (But for the life of me I don't know why) Don't take photos of any incidents. Stop the fekkers. You are part of the problem. No two ways about it.
That seems plain daft. Cohen’s in Dodworth must be at least 2 miles from the town hall. Not much chance of any disturbance spreading that far! The wife works at a town centre cafe a 2 minute walk away and they’re still opening. Hopefully it’s the right decision and there’s no trouble.
It’s still DWP, I don’t think it’s because they fear it will be targeted. It could simply be a case of it being dangerous and difficult to leave in case ‘ mayhem’ breaks out in Tarn. They’re not far off the Police station either.
Many people will be wary of being out and about tomorrow - maybe the Chemist staff have to travel through town to get to Dodworth?
We've been told to WFH tomorrow, based near Oakwell. More so that anyone needing to use buses etc doesn't have to run the risk of being around the town centre than trouble spilling that far from town I think.
