Wonder if it could be a permanent signing, shows he only has one year left next summer I did also say on other threads I wanted a tall keeper. They have certainly listened there. He is massive
Must admit there appears to be some decent saves on that reel, but the thing thats stuck in my memory is the mistake he made for Adam Phillips goal in December 2022 against us and also thought he may have done better for Luca Connells goal as well.
To say he should do better with the Connell one is super unfair imo. It has been hit low and with power, through a crowd and goes right in the corner. It'd be some save if he'd have saved that. The Phillips one though is very poor.
As I said in the other thread I'd be a tad disappointed in this one on loan. He's certainly a downgrade on Roberts and I'm not sure he's any better than Smith. Mate who supported Peterborough really didn't rate him. If it was a permanent deal, I'd be quite happy though, gives us plenty of time to develop him at a very young age. As there'll undoubtedly be talent in there, just not sure he's a top league 1 keeper this year.
I agree Lucas goal came through a crowd of players but the ball is within a dives range, and would be expecting him to have a go and not just wave at the ball as it goes past him
Not sure we need another keeper to develop. We seem to collect young keepers for some reason instead of just signing an experienced proven one. Baffles me…..
That's my thoughts. People will automatically think he's better than who we got from Walsall because he's from Chelsea. They have eight keepers so plenty to get out somewhere.
I don't agree there. It is right in the corner and hit at pace. He can't commit until it's come through the crowd in case it gets a deflection. Could argue he should be placed more centrally in his goal but I don't think you can criticize him much on that one imo. The 2nd goal is clearly a poor bit of goalkeeping, but the first for me is not on him at all. Just a good strike and the defence should do more to close it down.
Does seem a bit of an odd one, but so far they have done well with the signings so I hope it is one they have scouted and the keeper coach thinks is a good addition, rather than a bit of a panic after other options turned us down. Someone like Brynn who was mentioned as a possible option would have made more sense as he has lots more experience and was a top keeper at this level last season. If it is Bergstrom, which it seems to be, I will for sure reserve judgement until I have seen him in action for us. Clearly is capable of making some impressive stops and should offer a lot more than Roberts in terms of being able to command his box from crosses given his significant height.
The 2nd one did come at him through some players and may have taken a deflection. I’d reserve judgement until we’ve seen him settled in
It does but it's still pretty much straight at him and he gets something on it but it still goes in. Not a total shocker but its poor. I would expect it to be saved. At the start of his loan there he was doing really well and so were Posh. His and the teams form dropped a bit and then he was dropped. Hopefully he can come hit the ground running here. He will also be playing behind what should be a much improved back line for us this season with Pines back soon and most importantly Robbo.
Not overly impressed two previous loans ended early due to not getting games as being dropped. Does not instill confidence
Agreed, season starts tomorrow though. So I'm trying to be positive and see the benefits. I can see Smith being loaned out. I would have taken an experienced keeper over this and then you bring a young understudy in, as you said. I'm just trying to see the positives. Hopefully he proves me wrong and he's class. I'd be surprised though.
Agreed, my picks would have been Southwold, Addai, Brynn. Think they would have been solid picks. First two going to teams we can't compete with financially so fair enough I guess. Allegedly he's not brilliant at coming out and claiming things. Which is surprising I know. His underlying numbers are poor as well from his time at Peterborough.
Southwood was the one I wanted and expected us to get him to be honest, was shocked to see Bolton get him given they already have a solid keeper for this level.
I'm amazed as well, he's gone there to be 2nd choice. I guess he'll be on more brass there. But I'm surprised he didn't want first team football.
