Sorry, I can see where my title may have mislead you. It’s the Nazi protest that I am referring to being anti to, not a new set of protests against the Nazis. As far as I can see the people defending the vulnerable were peaceful. I don’t want to bring on the “Battle of Cable Street” because that was violent on both sides, but it still stands as one of our country’s finest hours. Ordinary people not tolerating thuggish, racist violence is something to be proud of.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-politics-live-updates?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other Sounds like the police agree that the counter protesters played a crucial part
This has been my exact point about Farrage for years. He is no different to Abu Hamza al-Masri, barring the lack of a prison sentence, and hook for a hand.

The police are doing an amazing job. Can't understand why anyone would want to undermine them when they're protecting people and property, putting their necks on the line. There's unity between the police and communities, good people standing up for what's right, it's not one or the other, they're on the same side.
Probably 3-40 years old now, and just as genius. https://www.reverbnation.com/attilathestockbroker/song/9017445-asylum-seeking-daleks
I think its been a combination of a sensible approach from government and police and a strong show of support from decent people. Fast sentencing will make people wary and the media sharing each arrest, charge and sentence will also make people think twice. There may be a few efforts to flare things up, again from the most mindless idiots, but I suspect the worst has passed.
I think you have misunderstood my post. The anti racist protests have significantly reduced the riots by the far right by just bring there in peaceful numbers. The trouble escalates far greater when it's just the racist group and police. I am certainly not down playing the bravery and competence of the police just showing the positive impact the peaceful groups have had on the situation.
Just saying that the presence of the anti racist groups have had a significant impact on reducing the rioting and has had imo a greater impact on reducing the tensions than it being just the police. The police have done a fantastic job in extreme circumstances.
Certainly not undermining the great work our police force have done dealing with these idiots. The anti racist groups though have certainly made a significant difference to the situation which in turn has prevented more attacks on our incredibly brave police force.
Fair play for coming back with a clarification. I think you might have just phrased your op poorly. I'm no fan of Starmer but he and the Police have 'played a blinder' this last week.
Anyone know the situation in town at the moment? I'm setting off for Oakwell soon and want to avoid whatever's going on. Ta.
I think it’s fair to say that across the country, the people that are turning up and ‘protesting’ are in the minority. Social media leads them to believe that what they’re doing was inevitable and that most people feel that way, but they are just a noisy minority. I think just the presence of growing numbers of counter protestors will soon dampen their desire to keep turning up, because they will no longer have it their own way. Sheer numbers will win the day.
It does make you proud that people are turning out, but I’m sure the Police still need to take tremendous credit for what they’ve had to respond to, and their presence is still needed.
Raining On a serious note it's good that just like many other places over the past few days, a protest was fake news.
I drove past just before 1. There were about 20 at most anti immigrant protestors and about 60 or 70 in an anti racist protest. Probably about 50 police in attendance too. Looked to be a bit of a non event (thankfully).
Was it? After 3-4 days of it being published across Telegram and various media with high profile accounts repeating it, perhaps that is them trying to save face after they were humiliated.
