It is footage from 3 months ago of Starmer standing up in parliament slating Sunak for possibly going to take the pensioners winter fuel allowance away.

He's not actually taking it away though is he. Pensioners in real need will receive it.

I suppose the justification is that 3 months ago Starmer wasn't running the country and so didn't have the same detailed access to the country's finances that he does now. We're in a mess and I'm sure there will be more tough choices to be made as Labour get to grips with things.

As for the allowance itself, I'm not quite old enough to get it, but if I was I wouldn't need it. I'm happy not to receive it and there must be plenty more like me.

True, but let's not pretend we wouldn't be absolutely raging had the Tories actually done the same thing mate... I know I would be. That's because I'm bias and immature perhaps but also probably very low expectations of the tories. I have much higher for the labour but they certainly have to prove it!

As a pensioner who doesn’t need it, I think it is a wise move, so long as the ones in need still get it. Maybe a better policy would be to make sure the energy companies provide easy to understand tariffs.

This goes for all party’s in power - but here’s a question- do you think the time lag from a party getting in power and then making a raft of changes to taxation etc could be down to them shuffling their assets about before the horse bolts so they don’t get stung with the changes they’re going to implement - knowledge is power and all that.
On that basis - and with these people being paid by the taxpayer-should there be full disclosure from them on movement on assets, changes in status on assets etc? This way they could held accountable

From my pensioners point of view he ignored the option of chasing the rich who can afford to pay more.
Disappointing that some agree with it.

I'ts the blatant untruths that are going on in memes, that people who are sharing them seem to believe to be 100% accurate. I'd argue the majority of these people sharing these posts **need** a Labour/left leaning government. I also believe they've forgotten the last four incompetents and liars, but specifically Truss and Johnson.

I wouldn't have been. A policy is either good or bad, no matter who introduces it. My late mother-in-law didn't need it either. She always said that she could tell when the winter fuel allowance had been paid out, because Marks & Sparks was "full of old fogies buying Xmas presents". :D

Yeah, as much as I dislike the Tories but it's not fair to put Sunak and May in the same bracket as Johnson and Truss.

Cameron has his own special place in hell too

Good joke mate but I’d be more inclined to believe those same old fogies were actually buying new thermal underwear to help see them through the winter.

I'd say Sunak was just as bad as Johnson. He might not have blustered as much, but he was just as nasty with his words and actions.

May started the whole hostile environment thing. These riots didn't happen overnight

Whatever Cameron may or may not have done with pigs, he was a proper politician and nothing like a Johnson or Truss. If it wasn’t for his stance on austerity (I get that was a big issue!) I don’t think he’d have been much different to Blair.
