I mentioned last night I have a new job. That is by-the-by, but it means I can delete alerts from all the many job sites I have been visiting for the last couple of months. And a few mouse clicks in, it has prompted me to post my thoughts on the media / digital team malarky at the club. Sorry if I come across as negative after @Metatarsal ‘s eve of season positivity, but …… (and I’m sorry if I’m repeating previous thoughts on this)

The Reds kick off the season tonight, and yet on the website our ‘next match’ is Accrington away in pre-season. As far as I can tell, there hasn't been an article regards tickets for the match up until Twitter last night. I’ve an ST but has anyone received an email from the club about tonight’s game? It seems silent as far as email comms go (I checked – I still subscribe)

Yesterday there was a pre-match press conference with Darrell Clarke and Luca Connell. Radio Sheff tweeted about it. Doug O’Kane (Chronicle) did. Leon Wobschall (Yorkshire Post) did. Decent output as expected from those two. But no reference on our own channels. Anywhere. Nothing on the website. No video of it, for the first time ever, I’m sure. No tweet about it. In fact, no video on the club iFollow since July 16th. No highlights of any of the friendlies. Not even match reports of our last two friendlies. We tweeted about the new skipper yesterday, and a letter from the CEO. Have those two articles been squeezed in? At the cost of team / player / manager content?

On the ‘Teams’ section of the website, and again, I’ve never known this before, the players are wearing last season’s shirts with an old sponsor on. When I posted this last week, I really did expect us to be up-to-date come opening day. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/teams . What do the kit provider and Gleesons think of this? Are we doing a matchday programme, or is that now consigned to the bin too with everything else media and marketing? I have seen no reference to the programme, or for the Centenary Society. No results, no mention since mid-July. Is there a Fanzone this season? That was asked yesterday on here. What's the Car Parking arrangements this term? At one time there was the feeling that might have been picked up on by the club and an update forthcoming. What’s actually occurring tonight? And what is the fan offering going forward towards the winter months? Does anyone know? A very popular ex-player in Alan Little passed away this week. It’s been referenced by former clubs of his. Nothing from our official site, or socials. Rob Burrow was paid tribute to by MANY sporting clubs especially in Yorkshire. There was a traffic disaster too that once upon a time the club would have acknowledged and respected. Are we that much of a skeleton behind the scenes?

I’m sorry, but how has it got to this point? Some may disagree, but I thought our media and marketing was one of the club’s strong points in recent years. Whether it was the website, social media, videos or via email we were informed about everything. Maybe a little OTT with the carvery posts and Carabao Drinks offers… but in general, it was up to date, looked professional and engaged with the fanbase. Too much was definitely better than not enough. With a small team we had the balance just about right. Now? Absolutely shocking.

So what I came across earlier today ……… which prompted me to write again:

The club are advertising for media staff, and, it seems, boy do they need them – but :

This is almost prime comedy material on a par with ‘intern’ gags of recent years. Are we really replacing two valued, experience and passionate members of staff who left recently with these?

    https://irecruit.efl.com/vacancies/915/media-executive.html and https://irecruit.efl.com/vacancies/916/content-creator.html

Looking forward to tonight but yet again we have work to do in the back office. It’s going to take a long time to get back to any sort of relevant functionality.

That Content Creator job is well below living wage. Unless it's very part time, which isn't mentioned in the ad. What on earth is going on?

If its a full time role and 37 ish hours a week, its almost half the living wage for a 21+ year old.

It’s not good is it and a poor reflection on a club of our size. Hopefully get better in the weeks ahead but, for now, it’s very poor.

No mention of Alan Little passing was really bad. When we had Whitey and Chris as part of the media team we were good for bringing to attention to a death of a former player, giving them a career write up and putting once a red at the end.

It appears we are still doing a programme but it's not mentioned on our site what's in it.....

Have they knocked off the Fanzone like they did the open day?

also 6 hours to Kick off and no match day guide saying which turnstiles are open, whether you can pay at the gate etc Always had one last season usually the evening before. It definitely looks like the 2 guys who have gone haven't been replaced - it's a bit poor from a club our size. Farnham town are giving me much more info on social media than BFC and they are 4th tier non league

I have had a look at those two job adverts, wow!!! Both look to be min wage. One of the links is showing 11k a year but doesn't say if it's full or part time.

Has to be part time unless they are claiming they are hiring 16 year old apprentices, but if hiring an apprentice you expect senior media personnel to be training them up not just telling them to get on with it

Having just read the job requirements including full driving licence cant be 16 or even 17 years old so unless the expectation is 20h per week or less it not going to be minimum wage

Content Creator roles are often unpaid interns so I think the expectation is that another job is held alongside it. Not that I'm excusing it, mind.

Comms are an absolute disgrace for a club of our size. Disgusted that no mention has been made of Alan Little passing away. It’s not good enough…..

It's a full-time role, as they are on Indeed also. £11.44 an hour. So, I wonder if we have made two higher-paid positions redundant and opted for two minimum-wage roles instead.

The roles would have to be significantly different mate. A job is made redundant not a person.
If the previous persons were made redundant or sacked I'd be seeing an employment solicitor. I don't recall YTBFC saying either.

A job role is considered for redundancy, not the person doing the job. Redundancy is when an employer dismisses an employee because their role is no longer needed, such as when a business is changing, moving, or closing.

I understand that but I've also seen many a company use this as a way to offload salaries and slightly tweak roles.

That's true mate but if not significant it should imo be challenged.
    I hate unscrupulous employers.

Even today's single tweet (matchday - a single tweet) is a pic rather than a hyperlink. I fully expected to click the photo to be taken to the usual 'what's on', accessibilty info, turnstile info, pay on the gate, late arrivals, food info, fanzone .......... nothing. Nadda.

Let's hope they have told the players there is something on.
