Today feels really weird. It doesn’t feel like the first day of a new season at all. I feels a little bit like there’s not even a match, I’m getting suspicious that I’m going to turn up and it’s the wrong day or something. How has there not even been an email proclaiming that it’s match day and giving key info? The lack of Open Day really hasn’t helped either.

It really is poor. So many non league clubs are miles ahead of us now when it comes to the media. I posted a bit ago about how the lack of content during pre season was dire.
I used to pay for iFollow to watch the interviews and all that and was happy to do so. Is there even anything like that at the moment now? Surely it’s not hard to hit record on the teams meeting that they do for the press conferences and just upload that to the website?

Hah I've had such a mental few weeks (Dad broke his neck, dog died yesterday) I didn't even know there was a game tonight! Cheers for the heads up. Does feel very odd.

I don't remember being as uninterested in a season starting. Just no buzz for me whatsoever. I put much of the blame on Sky though. This new deal is gonna wreck match day for many. Especially those with families.

Oh no, I hope your dad’s going to be ok? Was your dog the lovely pup with you the day you had the flat battery? I’m so sorry for your loss.

Well, I'm excited. As long as iFollow is working and doesn't buffer, that's all I ask for in sunny California (fingers crossed, like).

Yeah, he's a lucky ducky, fortunately a stable fracture so not even a collar needed, but a couple of weeks in Barnsley hospital did him good.

Yes, the same dog, Bexford. She was nearly 17, so really quite old for a dog of her size. She was such a good girl. :(

Glad to hear it’s not too bad. Bexford really is a beauty.

Happened to me once when the company decided I was no longer needed and gave my job to one of my staff - who was paid rather less than I had been but they gave me a significant package and even paid for me to see a solicitor of my choosing to advise whether I should accept their compensation as if I took it I was agreeing not to contest it. Solicitor took one look and said accept it ( I was planning to ) I probably wouldn't get any more if I took them to court
Long term it saved the company money though as only one salary to pay instead of 2

There’s ways around it though - can be done under a compromise agreement maybe so that employees do not go to tribunal for unfair dismissal - they are paid an extended notice (3 or 6 months), get an agreed reference, and usually agreed by both parties are leaving statements (if required).

Really sorry to hear about your dog, it's never easy regardless of age or anything else so hope you and the family are doing ok. As for your dad, what a lucky bugger. Make sure he gets plenty of rest and doesn't do owt daft to make it worse. Also tell him to get a collar for the sympathy, you can't break a neck and not at least milk it for sympathy off people.

    So

We had a "what's on tonight" and supporters information Tweet put out last night whilst folks were already in or around Oakwell.
We had limited tweets - about 5 per half during the match.
And a single quote from DC as a post match reaction.
This morning, the club website still has 'matchday information ' as it's latest headline. This is the day after the prestigious opening day, in pro footballs third tier, of one of the best leagues in Europe.

There was barely sod all to tell us a match was imminent. And even less - so far - to tell us something has happened.

Sorry Mr Flatman, but even LNER do us the courtesy of a "due to staff shortages ....." soundbite.

Fans might be more accommodating if our CEO informed the fan base with a short statement. We are sorry for the lowering of standards in our media lately. We lost a couple of staff members and are working hard to replace them etc etc etc.

It's all very odd, particularly considering that two of the staff that I presume were responsible for this sort of stuff both left at the same time, published almost identical farewell letters on linked-in, and it appeared that neither had another job lined up. You would think they were required to work their notice, giving the club time to recruit replacements.

Meanwhile, I'm not sure the results of our preseason friendlies are being reported very accurately
