I'm taking solace in the hope the first 11 today won't be the first 11 by the end of August If it is then
DC said in a recent Radio Sheffield interview ' judge us when the window's closed' - so I'll reserve judgement until then
My dad is ill was a big reds fan. Hes 72 stopped watchin us about 12 years ago. Said to me the love for football lessens as u age. He is right. Couldnt tell u who next 3 games are against.
I agree that just one game in, is not the time for doom and gloom. And predictions of a possible relegation struggle this season etc. I do also firmly believe, that you can learn more from a defeat, compared to a victory. But I hope we're not going to keep on testing that theory. Now, we move onto the next matches ahead!.
Would never panic this early to be fair. First half an hour we were chasing shadows though. Which is a bit of a worry. Our midfield, as good as it looks on paper, was non existent for the first half hour. We did have periods of pressure and could’ve scored with either Watters, Cosgrove or Phillips. Thought Clarke’s first sub was good and helped us. The triple subs hindered us though and we seemed to lose momentum after that.
Yes we lost but after the first sub and change to 4-4-2 we looked like we could walk it. Missed too many good chances but at least the players looked like they gave a sh*te. few more games and form some understandings plus new signings and Pines back and it will look very different. I'll forecast that Mansfield will get battered by most of the sides in this league.
The first half an hour was horrific, but there were reasons for that. Mansfield set up with a fairly compact diamond meaning they had four players against our middle three, they were on it from the first minute so it's nigh on impossible to counter that when you're a man light in the middle. Clarke saw it, changed it very quickly. Unfortunately the damage was already done. We NEED NEED NEED to sign two reputable forwards in the next couple of weeks. We have the makings of a good side, we created the chances. We could've conceivably won that game five or six to two. Depending on what business we get done between now and the window closing will be the difference between a 13th-16th place finish with Watters and Cosgrove, or a 2nd-7th if we get the right calibre in...over to the board.
Bottom of the league after losing to a newly promoted team. I don't think it will be that easy to relax.
I've reflected and think if we take our "many chances" tonight we win. Regardless of how crap a couple of players are individually. (Bin Earl he's a liability).
Bottom of the league come on bud. No fecker else has played. Id put a million quid that at 7pm tomorrow we will not be bottom. Dont look at league til 5 games in
Although we lost, i thought there were better signs than last season, but we need a striker by hook or by crook and ptay the new goaly is better than we have got
Not won at home in a while now.. Clarke says he thrives on pressure, well he'll certainly get it if it's not turned around.
That's a different (but still worrying) argument altogether though. What can anybody say, is the right amount of games these days, before a coach/manager should get sacked. That's a long way off though of course, and I agree that Clarke does seem to have a confidence about him, in his own ability etc. A lot like Michael Duff there actually.
I don't think football is for you mate,I'm surprised the grass wasn't the right shade of green for you.
