Why boo our own team?

Last.night wasn't the result we wanted but after letting Mansfield run the show for 25.minutes, Clarke changed it and we dominated the rest of the game and deserved a point. Despite giving everything we fell just short because of shortcomings in front of goal. After an effort like that the players were booed off the field by so called fans. If any of those efforts had gone in and we'd deservedly drawn, they would have been clapped off the pitch. Every time we lose in this league, the players get booed off irrespective of the performance. I've never booed my own team even when we struggled in the 4th Division so wonder if some fans have a sense of entitlement in this division. I suppose I've just never got why a grown man would shout "Boo" at anyone.

 

Enough stayed to clap them. Part and parcel of being a footballer I'd have thought, take it with a pinch of salt.

 

I did neither. Never understood booing although I did get close a couple of times under Collins!

 

It was a resounding "Boo" at the final whistle. A few stayed and clapped but most of the players were walking off at that stage. After busting a gut to try and equalise, I can't see how any player would be happy to hear that. It might be part and parcel of being a Barnsley player but I'm not sure it's part and parcel of being a footballer. I've been to lots of games away from home where we've won but very rarely heard the home fans boo their team off. Sorry, I've just no idea what it achieves.

 

We're one game into the new season, if fans were booing then IMO that's absolutely ridiculous. Like with Collins last season, I'll give Clarke 10 league games before I start to properly asses him and his tactics.
Sadly I think things could get toxic very quickly (much quicker than last season) if we have a poor start.

 

Always been of the opinion that after the game is when the crowd get their chance to show their approval or otherwise towards their team. Personally I don’t boo, be it during or after the game.

Couldn't believe hearing it last night. Was a little ashamed, and embarrassed to be fair. People who did might say it was towards the board or whatever, but the players won't know that. They'll just know that after working their ******** off, after 1 game, yes 1, they've been booed off. We did dominate after the 25th minute mark and should have scored to atleast even the game up. Unfortunately, we didn't and it needs addressing in this window, but jesus wept man. It certainly is entitlement from a lot of them.

 

What I don’t understand is that duff said he’d get the bod on if we booed them off and this was with a far superior team and budget - the fans listened . I would say Clarke is very similar to duff and we need to give the bloke time. Personally, if we show signs of progression on and off the pitch and we are in touch with the playoffs I’m happy with this.

our budget is in the lower end of the division - this is why DC is the manager, as he has a solid record of developing players and supposedly over achieving with them

when the football was gash last season and we won folk moaned, the football is better and we lose - folk moaned . Let’s put it in perspective- our players are in the bottom half of ability in their chosen profession.

all I want to see is players get stuck in and look bothered- if we fall short so be it. What boils my urine is when players can’t be ar5ed to put a shift in - or allegedly in styles’ case don’t want to, but will take the bacs payment every week.

On that topic I’m glad styles didn’t play - if his attitude is off in general (all allegedly) then it’s bad man management to pick him in front of players who give a 5hit

 

I suspect the booing is more of a continuation of last year's frustration rather than a new bout of discontent with the new manager and team. People were gradually getting more and more peed off with Collins' team last year and the booing followed. Its just continued that's all. When (not if) it's turned round and the team start to play better and create and score there'll be a better atmosphere. Might take a few games to put last season to bed though.

 

With all due respect, we lost, and the improvement wasn't a massive improvement, we looked seriously unfit, the shooting was Sunday league standard, the passing was awful the list goes on, it cost me £60 to watch this poor standard, I think I've every right to boo, I didn't, but I have the right, if they'd played well I have the right to cheer and clap.

 

Everyone does have their choice , but likewise I just can’t see how it would help in any way , but folk have to remember it’s L1. I’d rather have 6000 fans get behind the team than 10000 with 4000 of them being volatile

a lot of these boo boys wanted Collins out as he was the root cause of all the problems - even though we were 5th - they got their wish and they’re now at it 1 game in with a lower budget

I’m led to believe our budget last season was about the 10th-12th lowest in the division and this season is even lower

If they pay as they go then I’d rather them just stop at home and watch it on sky along with their other favourite teams who’s players are on £200000 a week

I'd rather have 10k spending rather than 6k and know our board would agree too.

 

There is no benefit to booing a team.

 

Bit early to be booing despite our pathetic home record and lack of value with matchday ticket prices.

 

I just don’t get it. We seem to have a hardcore minority who seem to revel in despondency. Walking down Oakwell lane I met someone I used to work with. The monologue from him was unbelievable. “They’ve taken my money and we’re going to get the same lovely personp with this manager”. Moaning before the first game and booing at the end doesn’t make sense. Do those booing think it will inspire the players to work harder and play better.? Were they booing the result or the performance or the manager’s tactics. For what it’s worth I thought the performance was good, only let down by poor finishing. Clark’s tactics were brave and correct. He saw the problem, changed formation and put us on the front foot.

 

If driven for 7hrs to get to Barnsley for the game & supported the team throughout the game but neither booed or clapped at the end as we had lost. It was the most Barnsley start to the season ever to go 2-0 down at home against a team that’s just come up.

If you look at the great escape season under DF. We were losing something like 6-0 at home to Charlton and the atmosphere was still of togetherness. If the boo boys put the same energy into making oakwell more intimidating for the visitors as opposed to our own team we might see a difference.

football is a confidence game and players will know in certain situations if they misplace a pass etc it will be greeted with some opinions - that then breeds a safety first approach as opposed to taking a chance.
