A certain Barnsley Fan has been charged. Hopefully the club Ban him https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy4lm9277dvo
Stupidity at its highest and deserves the punishment set out in a court. However, not sure that the club will or should ban him. There will be a number of fans with criminal backgrounds in every ground at matches.
I think the opposite. He's been an idiot, and hopefully, whatever punishment he is given makes him think twice in future, and you would like to think he could be educated to understand why perhaps it's not the people staying in that hotel that are to blame for all the ills in this country. It's a dangerous precedent for the football club to get involved in banning convicted criminals though. Where do we stop? What offence does or doesn't deserve a ban from Football. People do stupid things. I kind of think we should leave it to the law to provide the appropriate level of punishment. Looking at some of the other offenders sentences, he could serve time.
Given some of the issues the club has had including FA charges for racist & sectarian behaviour it'd be pretty risky to let someone in who was involved in race riots.
You could argue that football clubs are at the heart of a community and banning them from something they love is potentially a good deterrent for others and may think twice. Nobody who is convicted of racist/terrorist offences should be anywhere near a football club IMO.
Would take a fair bit of policing to enforce that, I'm almost certain our club would find it beyond out means. Moreover while I do understand where you are coming from and that few people change it does preclude the opportunity to change.
Charged with violent disorder. Maximum sentence 5 years. A guilty plea is looking at 3 years 4 months (serving ~20 months) and taking it to trial 5 years (serving ~2.5). They aren't going to a game this season and most of next.
I don’t see that it’s in the clubs powers to ban jobless Harry Potter or any other Reds fan that was there! It’s double jeopardy.
Very dangerous and clearly wrong, no excuses for the behaviour but he may have mental health issues so it’s wrong to punish someone for an offence committed not in connection with the club private or not, it’s like banning miners who were hit by truncheons at Orgreave.
It really is though isn’t it. I have no doubt everyone attending Manvers did so with one agenda and that was racism fuelled, the images I’ve seen of the individual questioned unless there is other footage shows him aiming a foot at a riot shield hardly crime of the century and been done millions of times. Is there two tier policing? Dunno but hard to argue against it when only 20 odd arrested for Harehills and I believe 4 charged and nobody charged for Manchester airport. So why a certain section of our fan base wanting someone banned defies belief.
