Wow, I'm truly lost for words. It sounds like you understand the legal system about as well as I do particle physics. Everyone gets the chance to plead not guilty and if you want to go there and use the mental illness card then even your far right pals could have done that- AND GOT A TRIAL. They didn't though, because evidently their legal aid solicitors advised them that they didn't have a cat in hell's chance of getting off.
It’s incredibly worrying and a sleight on the education system that people who are in their 7th or 8th decade don’t understand the legal system of the country that they live in, and yet still have a say in the running of the country.
To be fair it’s our fault for getting wound up. Not understanding is not a crime. I don’t believe he/she is maliciously stupid, so we shouldn’t judge and should try and educate regardless of how frustrating it is.
It is very worrying. I don't get it, really... How do you plead? Guilty... off you trot then, I sentence you to X in prison. Not guilty... OK I will send this up to crown court for trial. Is it really that difficult?
He’s remanded in custody until the trial. He’s not roaming the streets. If his legal team think he has a legal reason not to be convicted it would be remiss of them to not tell him to plead innocent, it’s literally their job. I very much doubt he has a better legal team than the ones telling the racist morons rioting who are telling them to plead guilty.
Your main complaints seem to be that they didn’t get a trial and that they were dealt with sooner. They had a chance to plead mental illness but they pleaded guilty. When you plead guilty you don’t have a trial because you don’t need one. A trial is to establish guilt; they have already pleaded guilty so no trial will be held and sentencing can be given. It’s better for them that their case was heard sooner, they wouldn’t have gained anything by it dragging on for years, it just ruins their life for longer. A quicker decision benefits them.
Pmsl. Folk pulling their hair out. If he didn't get it first response, he either never will, or is indeed a wum.
Some great analysis of the 2 tier policing ridiculousness https://thesecretbarrister.com/2024/08/14/two-tier-justice-cutting-through-the-online-myths/
This sentence - from a substack subscription I read yesterday - caught my attention and is pretty apt for most discussion on this board: "everybody is entitled to an opinion, but not every opinion is entitled to count."
