You never knew where XTC were ever going with any song. Usually it was utterly English nowhere. But entertainingly. I always compared them with Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel. To my shame I was - and still am - devoted to Steve Harley.
With respect. You are having to sell your house to pay your Bill's. I wouldnt like that to happen to anyone. But who are you actually blaming for that. (Have you sought help. Millions are not claiming what they are due to.) The heating allowance will not be removed completely ad hoc. Those in need will still get help. By whatever means. Means testing etc. Labour have been in power just over a month. Hard decisions have to be made. Farage said the same in fact. Liz Trust crashed the economy in weeks. Tories had been in power for 14yrs run by clowns.
Another good ‘un we’ve lost this year. Whatever your politics are I think we all agree that cancer is a pointless ******* of a disease.
Was it so clear cut in Barnsley? Don't you remember on the night? The ones who thought that Barnsley folk had betrayed their roots? The baying mob? They weren't Labour. They were Corbyn ashes. That's your 63.5% weighing in without reference to rhyme or reason. As is often the case on here. Admittedly at least half of the 63.5% hate labour more than the rest of the electorate. I don't think there's anyone left I'd like to see in concert. Bob Dylan maybe - just to say I saw him - but apparently he's been crap for at least 40 years. Any ideas?
Depends on your preferences. Springsteen still puts a great show on. Not my bag though. I like some newer ‘old’ stuff - I’d love oasis to reform for example. You know what, I ******* love this forum. What a tangent we can go on. I’m still waiting btw, Reform
" and all the world is football shaped, its good for me, to kick its face, 'cos I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste, and I've got 1 2 3 4 5, Senses working over..time!. " They just don't write lyrics like that anymore do they. In fact, nobody does, sadly!.
Ah well.. when it comes to reform it needs to be Genesis with Gabriel Banks Rutherford Collins and Hackett. I'd be front row for that. And then die happy.
btw this reunion is still possible, although Collins can't now drum more than to the beat of a kid's party. They were all under 25 when they came out with the stuff that has turned out to be the bedrock of my musical preference. Which I have only worked out 50 years later. I'm a man lacking perception.
Paul Young (then part of the Q-Tips) was knocking off my then girlfriend's mate when I was at uni. Said mate ended up on TV for a while but nothing came of it. He was years later, warm up for a gig at Sheffield City Hall but I can't recall the main act.
The Who 1981. This is a great insight into main and support acts. Eg Genesis supported Lindisfarne. https://sheffieldmusicarchive.co.uk/sheffield-city-hall/sheffield-city-hall-listing/
One thing I’ve heard a lot over the last few weeks is “Someone had to say it”. It implies that it’s never been said before, when it actually has, repeatedly or even that lots of others really agree but won’t admit it, which again, isn’t true. Just listen to this lady, a year ago, about 6 minutes in when she turns inexplicably to immigration. She’s full on “Not allowed to say it” and “no one else will say it”.
She's probably still moaning about how she was shouted down. The right talk about echo chambers on the left, but at least most of us can still maintain the ghost of an argument. I guess that shouldn't be surprising, seeing as we've spent over a century arguing amongst ourselves!
That's what annoys me though about those radio/tv phone in hosts. Their appalling arrogance and smugness, its all about them and the callers are beneath them etc. Even if a caller wants to try and have a reasonable debate, and keeps calm instead of losing their temper. This woman loses it with Mike Graham, when arguing about people on benefits. And should they be looked down on as 'dole scroungers' etc!. Btw, Jason Cundy & co also kept doing it on Talksport during the Euros, and they were also extremely annoying.
Well, I've read this entire thread now (goodness knows why). Bottom line for me is you post what you want. I often post as you may or may not know and I find as long as you're polite and try and debate without getting abusive you'll get the same back. People will have different views to you - its inevitable - but just do as I've just said and you'll be ok. If you constantly whine without backing up your whining though you'll wind people up and some will get abusive or make cheap jokes because they'll not see the logic to your whining. They shouldn't become abusive of course and shame on them if they do but, bottom line, as I said, be respectful, explain yourself, be prepared to say 'I disagree, but I see your point' and you wont get much flak or feel hounded. Just one more rider...... If you do post stuff that seems racist or seems to target people in general and it reads like general abuse or racial abuse then you will get called out for it. I dont think personally that its wrong to call out people who abuse others myself. Just post, be polite, try not to whine too much and people will have a bit of respect for you (and if it floats your boat you may get a few likes). P.s. I referred to boats there but I'm not making a comment about asylum seekers.
