Bournemouth and Brighton paying £40 million for players. Meanwhile ticket prices are going through the roof and longtime fans are being priced out, despite the fact that the league will likely as not remain massively skewed and largely uncompetitive, with most clubs happy to stay out of the relegation dogfight. What a grotesque parody of itself it's become.

 

It trickles down too. £27 for Reds v Mansfield in L1 is pathetic pricing. Especially now we've got Sky Sports covering a load more matches. I'm seriously considering just voting with my feet again

 

A club the size of Porto losing out on one of their best players, a Brazillian international btw, to Bournemouth. It's crazy. People 'like' how Bournemouth came up in a number of years, yet rarely mention them being bankrolled, they're no different to what City/Chelsea/Wrexham/Blackburn etc have all done/doing

Not only that if you decided to go on the day the price increases by £2 on all tickets. So in the east upper it’s £30 in advance or £32 on the day. Scandalous pricing really for 3rd division football.

 

It's genuinely sad. I don't want to be boycotting games at all as I bleed Barnsley FC. But you do have to start drawing the line.

 

Life is about choices. I chose to spend money watching them for many, many years. If I was still living in the UK and having a season ticket was as impractical as it was before I left I'm afraid their matchday pricing would make me spend my money elsewhere.

 

All about the money, Henderson played in Saudi for 800k a week infront of about a thousand fans, he clearly didn't go there for anything other than the money, like your post, why would anybody turn down Porto, possible league winners, European football , big home crowds for Bournmouth, cash is king as they say

 

It is barmy that in spite of a new TV deal which means more revenue for the club that we then & go & put up ticket prices & put huge price increases on food & drink in the ground.

I was talking to a Huddersfield fan about it & she couldn’t believe the prices we pay.

 

As grotesque as it is, and it really is grotesque. I doubt anyone would begrudge a multi-billionaire coming in and bankrolling us to the Premier League. I hate modern football, but at the same time I am jealous of those who "have". I'm sick of being told how we can't compete and that League 1 is our level etc.

A massive overhaul of the entire footballing world is needed, I just fear that it will never happen when we have what is essentially a cartel running the sport. Sad times.

I've got mixed feelings about it. I used to think I wouldn't like to be someone's vanity project, but it's got to the point where I'd probably be ok with it. But only if we had a core of British players in the squad. Really wouldn't want to be like Wolves or Watford with 11 foreigners starting. I don't want to come across all xenophobic, far from it. But we play in the English league, and I still think that English players understand the passions that run through the English game and all their nuances better than most overseas players ever could. Obviously there are some exceptions. But for every Arjan de Zeeuw or Mads Andersen, there are many more Hristovs and Tinklers.

Plus of course mega investment can translates into financial meltdown more often than it actually brings success on the field. "Success" that often means being a perennial Premier League relegation candidate. What fun.

 

English football league clubs should have a responsibility to the National set up as well as themselves, they can’t do that with no home grown players.
Used to be rules about only so many in a side and then I believe changed to had so many in a squad, not sure if that still exists but should have minimum requirements for all clubs(not for a clue what or how though).

 

Absolutely hate Bournemouth with a real passion. A few seasons in the PL and they're giving it the billy big ********. The sooner they end up back in L2 where they belong the better.

 

Had a few chats with the old Russian owner of Bournemouth at work. Did a bit of due diligence on him and it's impossible to find where his money comes from. He also has a good number of friends who are on the UK blacklist. It's some of the dodgiest money in English football and that's saying something.

 

And still passed the fit and proper test.

 

If it was "clean" money and they sought to preserve the identity of the club then yeah. If it was sportswashing by an oil state I wouldn't set foot in Oakwell again

 

Yeah, I'd find it pretty hard to get behind something like that to be honest.

Love to know what actually attracts them to the smaller clubs

 

Bournemouth is in the top 5 most expensive places to live in the UK, so I would imagine its helpful in attracting footballers and investment, when comparing to a Barnsley or even a Sheffield.

He bought the club cheap, chucked a few million in and now they are in the premier league. They were able to attract players that even with the same investment Barnsley wouldn't be able to.
