Use to work in Udders where Mattis was from with his brother in-law.. Hated Barnsley and Barnsley fans for the stick he got..
Hignett, Hammill, Nardiello. Lots said about the first two. There was always a feeling Danny could make a goal from nowhere. He was an exceptional dribbler even if he wasn't the quickest. As YT says, sadly there aren't as many exciting players anymore as risk taking and beating a man is discouraged. Also, I think kids being in Academies since an early age coaches out the street football type of flair we used to see. They're all a bit technically identikit now.
Very surprised at people saying Bullock and Marcelle both did bits but that’s all neither good enough to be regular match winners
Birch was the winger in my first year as a ST holder. We used to stand on the West terrace near the Ponty End. As an 11 year old it was all so close up and exciting to see a winger beat a defender. Obviously it wasn't the case but it felt like every goal came from the right wing and was scored at the Ponty End. I just remember how involved the fans used to get when we played down that side.
The post didn’t ask for match winners it asked who excited you and I’ll say time and time again marcelle and bullock you just dint get players like that anymore every single time without fail when receiving the ball they would turn and just run at the opposition and it was a joy to watch didn’t always result in anything but it was without fail exciting to witness and I’m glad I did week in week out dont think I’ve seen much since them in the same Ilk in all honesty, AH in flashes, vaz te and maybe JCR that’s about it but to do it every game consistently, marcelle and bullock all day
Fair enough in my opinion I’d say Hammill, Hignett, Vaz Te and many more like McCourt, Conor, Hendrie , JCR before Clint & Bullock
I remember him at Chesterfield, cracking little player.. Got big move to Wolves on the strength.. but it didn't work out. I thought it was a great signing when he arrived.. but never hit the heights of his Chessy days.. don't know if Wolves knocked his confidence or he'd picked up a lot term injury.. But he was a little whirlwind at Chesterfield
Same buzz for Currie & Hammill but Glav took it to another level. Wherever he got it on the pitch, the sound of 14k voices in Unison ........ "G'waaan" McCourt was similar but not enough games played to make top 3
Currie was an amazing player for us always remember the goal at stoke in the fa cup 3 all draw when a cross came in he controlled it with one and smashed it in with the other.
Honourable mention for Danny Rose believing he was four times the size he was and regularly flattening players like Shittu. Probably not what you're looking for but it was hugely entertaining. Also Jovo Bosancic being stretchered off after a bad tackle and screaming so loudly that people were calling up the club to find out if his career was over... Only for him to play the very next match! Absolute legend
Wasn't he the one who slammed his bag down in the changing room and said "why wasn't I invited?" when there were rumours about wife swapping parties going round? I think he was the joker in the pack at the time. He was a decent laiker, wasn't a bad goal he scored at Ayersome park.
