He's had time and chances for me Also, we have 4 senior strikers at the moment, none of which are that great but it's what we have. If we bring in more and hopefully better, surely Marsh isn't going to any opportunity to play. So we can't really bring in more whilst also giving him a run in side. Otherwise what is the point in adding more.
I don't think any of our current 4 strikers have had enough starts to justify them being given sufficient time to settle in to the team. It's different for strikers they need service and are judged on goals. No service, no goals Bringing new strikers in I am all for and we must do but don't dismiss our players until they have been given sufficient opportunity. What number of games in a run of continuous starting games is sufficient to determine if a striker is useless or not? Should we be able to tell in 2 games 5 or 10 or 20. Should they instantly be good?
Well that depends. If we bring in more then it might be Cosgrove or Watters that doesn’t get a game and he does. A young player will inevitably be inconsistent so a game or few sub appearances here or there doesn’t really tell you owt. Give him a consistent run and if nothing changes then move him on. But give him a go as it might work. Cosgrove and Watters have both been given a prolonged run in the team and neither have pulled up any trees. Take Cosgrove as an example. He spent most of last season looking like a carthorse then had 4 or 5 decent games at the end of the season and everyone thinks he’s the key man. Marsh has not been given that chance as we prioritise players who we’ve bought despite evidence to suggest they’re a bit s**t. If Marsh, Jalo, Dyer or another young strikers were given that much of a chance we could make an informed decision. Just to be clear though. I’m not saying he is good enough. Just that I don’t know because he’s not had enough of a chance to give a reasonable view.
Depends what you think and extended run is - I don't recall either Cosgrove or Watters getting a straight 10 games in a row. Both strike me (no pun intended) as players who need the 'arm around the shoulders' type manager who can gee them up.
To be honest not one of our strikers as had a good run of games to justify their quality or not, absolutely spot on from the last 3 posts. At least give them a run of games before signing a striker for the sake of it ,that will also need a run of games to fit in. When was the last striker that was brought in, that hit the ground running straight away. Ignet springs to mind and Hendrie.
McBurnie hit the ground running straight away. You could argue Woodrow too as he started scoring almost as soon as he got in the team he just had a never ending ‘2 week injury’ first.
