Maybe things even themselves out a bit ehh, as we did deserve better against Mansfield!. Delighted for Cosgrove with a proper well taken goal, hopefully that's going to help his confidence. Not much else to say because it sounded really poor from us, but I agree that a win, is a win. And our League one season, is now off and running.
When Philips was substituted I really had to puzzle that he had even been on the pitch. Apart from that I never heard his name mentioned.
Cosgrove's finish was Premier League but otherwise he got into the same old scrap with defenders. Admittedly playing it up to him in the air, when there's nobody near him, doesn't show him in a good light. The goalie is certainly keen to rush out off his line. One save was brilliant. I suspect we're going to have a hair losing season with him between the sticks. Phillips was atrocious btw. It's hard to work him out.
I totally agree, today was a win that we should all be enjoying. More fluent football will come when the squads finalized and things settle down.
He really is an enigma. My lad thinks he’s great but to me, that performance today sums him up. Hardly involved, and when he was he just gave the ball away. On the other hand, he does seem to have an eye for goal. Not sure what to make of him to be honest.
Not sure what to make of that. First half we probably edged it but kept giving the ball away and somehow getting caught 2 on 1. 2nd half it looked like Clarke told them to just bypass midfield but all the ball kept coming back at us or was kicked straight out by the keeper. In the end I felt we got away with it. They are a bang average side which I’m thankful for because against a decent team we would’ve been punished. Positives: - Centre halves were ok baring stupid mistakes from MDG and Pines. Earl did OK at left back. - Barry Cotter played well - Cosgrove had one of his better games. - Shot stopping by Gaga. He just needs to work on his distribution. - We won! Negatives: - Phillips was abysmal as was Connell. Craig was innocuous. - Watters was non-existent - We lack pace and guile up front but we knew that anyway.
Connell was really poor today and and twice nearly cost us a goal but at least tried to show for the ball where has Phillips looked like he’d been out the lash and Craig hardly touched the ball so today we massively got away with it.
Pretty much agree with that plus mistake from Roberts which led to their goal. big concern for me was the lack of pattern to our play. Perhaps it was just me, but I didn’t really see what the plan was. We have some really talented ball playing midfielders who can play through the lines but I didn't see any of that, nor did we try and play down the wings. that said it’s very early days and the lads ground out the win. Excellent finish from Cosgrove too. was great to meet and have beer with @Jay too
I can't work out whether he is a dirty niggly player, or extremely unlucky. He just never gets any 50:50 calls; in fact he doesn't get many 100:0 calls. Even with my obvious bias, it seems strange how he never gets anything, regardless of the opposition or referee. I'll just file it in my Conspiracy Theory folder.
Haven’t won at Lincoln since 1972 in the league. 3 points from first 6 and through to the next round of the league cup. Plenty of time to improve over the course of the season.
He's a dirty niggly player. Which is no bad thing. But he tends to foul just for the sake of it rather than make a genuine challenge for the ball. But we should not be knocking it up head high for him to do something with. He should be getting bals that he can hold up.
He wasn't happy at all today which is refreshing to hear, seems like he's a good man manager and when things settle down he'll have the players organised and running through brick walls for him.
Not really. That they’d already lost would have given them an even greater incentive if they needed it
Thought both had decent games, thought Pines started really well but seemed to lose a bit of confidence.
I’m on holiday in Lincolnshire this week and whilst walking through Skegness I was accosted yesterday (I was wearing my Barnsley shirt) by two teenagers telling me we were going to lose today. Bearing in mind I’m a 42 year old man with kids I thought that was a bit rude. Hope they are very sad this evening.
