Collins is anti football? Properly laughing. We played 6 at the back for the last 20 minutes. Reincarnation of Mad Mel. Awful display. Great win.
I think it was the players naturally dropping back and being nervous/fearful/sloppy. Sometimes it just happens - especially when you're leading, certainly when you've already conceded 1 when being 2 goals up. I said the exact same thing last season under Collins, but people obviously shot me down and it was all Collins fault. If it can happen in the champions league with Real Madrid, it can certainly happen with little old Barnsley. Unfortunately, it'll happen more often here due to quality of player in the first place. Great result, lots of work to do, but very happy so far. Hopefully we get some new transfers in soon and be laughing all the way to the championship
We played some very good attacking football against Mansfield and got nothing from the game. Much more entertaining than anything on offer last season. we were poor today but ground out a win in Collinsesque fashion.
For me, I think Clarke has to take a little blame. Marsh & Russell coming on for Craig & Watters, that early on, we weren't playing brilliant, but after those 2 went off, we were completely overrun. Barely had the ball in their half at all after than substitution. Slonina was very good, his distribution I've noticed is alright, his kicking is fine, but when under pressure it's horrendous as seen in that second half, perhaps to be expected with his age though and hopefully he'll grow (which I think he will). But for me those 2 coming on really put us under the cosh, I don't think the timing was right and I'm not even sure the personnel was right, because in my opinion that was probably Phillips' worst game for us, that I remember, he was truly dreadful. His awareness was non-existant, his passing was poor, he was incredibly slow to balls tonight for some reason. But after all that, still 3 points, first win in 50 years so happy days. It will get better, I'm certain of it. Loved Clarke's post-match interview
I reserve any judgement on his managerial skills until we have our new lads signed up. I really like him, says it how it is. People also need to remember that Lincoln away is no joke, it’s a hard place to go and get a result. It’s 3 points, and our squad building is nowhere near complete. No complaints at all from me.
I enjoyed today's game as a contest and don't miss Collins one bit, I bet there wasn't too many people complaining when we went 2-0 up.
Yeah he was a disgrace wasn't he, stealing a wage every week, while taking us to the post season Play offs.
do you remember the other 22 or pretty much the whole of the first half of that match when we were comprehensively outplayed. As both the Mansfield and Lincoln games demonstrate you don’t always get what you deserve
I was pleased with the scoreline and the fact that we took our chances clinically. But the performance was painful viewing at times. We were so sloppy in possession it was ridiculous. Luckily, apart from one lovely strike, Lincoln looked completely devoid of ideas. We have two big, experienced centre backs who are probably two of the best in the league. Lumping the ball in their general direction was never likely to bear fruit.
Yeah I thought that Pines and Roberts looked solid and will only get better the more they play, I'm sure that Clarke will find a way to make our midfield look more cohesive, big positive today is that we won with a lot of players capable of playing much better.
Was an absolutely shocking performance and we are lucky to have taken points from it. Couldn’t agree more. The only crumb of comfort is the manager has castigated the performance completely and seeks no excuse for it; if the football stays like this his words won’t cut it for too long. I suspect his standards will demand better. We can all hope so.
We just need to grind out results until the end of the transfer window. It’s clear we’re not where we want to be yet squad wise so any points we pick up now are great in my opinion.
I was merely pointing out that it was a pretty daft statement to suggest that the Mansfield game was "much more entertaining than anything on offer last season". It's just not true. Mansfield was ok, we probably deserved a draw. But don't re-write history to create an opportunity to have a pop at Collins.
i found the game more entertaining. Very few games last season did I leave the ground feeling optimistic. I pretty much dreaded every game after Christmas. Collins seemed a nice guy but hideously out of his depth. He was treated abysmally at the end and that didn’t sit well with me but thank god we don’t have another season of that.
