There was some evidence from the Mansfield match that we might be slightly more entertaining this season, but it was limited to a couple of spells. And still strongly disagree a 2-1 defeat, in which we created very few chances, was more entertaining than a 7-0 win. Or several other performances last season. And to suggest someone who got us into the playoffs is "hideously out of his depth" again seems completely over the top.
Early season when the team still had the confidence and discipline that Duff had installed we were occasionally good. In the weakest 3rd tier league I can remember we achieved the minimum. We had a set side with lots of experience and togetherness when NC took over and it would have been great to build and develop that unfortunately he wasn’t quite up to it. There’s no shame in that. Wherever we are in life and whatever we do we hit our limit in the end.
He had an entirely new defence for a start so it wasn't all perfectly set up for him to build on the previous year. I'm not Collins biggest fan and I agree the football was dull a lot of the time. But I just can't get my head around some of the hyperbole on how awful and out of depth he was. It's nonsense. A lot of folk were predicting us to not even make the play offs that year so to suggest he underachieved doesn't quite ring true to me.
