Great to hear a gaffer thats not trying to insult the fans intelligence' really tells it how it is and gives you real confidence that he'll be working hard to put things right' still early but i think he'll be a good fit and will get us firing.
Yeah, at the moment though!!. I agree that there is something likeable about Clarke, but how long ehh before some get fed up with it. Its certainly happened before.
Fed up of what, mate? I think both games before today, we were the better side. Second half against Wigan especially, and majority of the match against Mansfield after the 25 minute mark, I think we dominated. I'm well excited!
Fed up of anything Frog, its usually not that long before some start picking faults with the manager/coach. Or, they refuse to give them any credit instead, which is just as bad.
That's true, some fans weren't even happy with what big Val did, I do think that Clarke has a good vibe about him and really hope he does well.
Yeah fingers crossed, 'Clarkie' seems to have that likeability about him, for various reasons. I like that post match picture of him, where he looks like he found a pound note, and then lost a tenner!.
Always find it interesting though. When a manager is critical, it’s often seen as refreshing. When fans say the same things, they are often criticised for being negative.
Fans are nuts though. Because they either criticise when we do actually play well, or they never, ever say anything until the next draw or loss and then act like they were right all along etc. We got battered that second half especially so he needed to say it. I'm fairly certain when we do play well he won't criticise or be outspoken but will instead praise the team, unlike certain fans on here. Plenty of people moan and groan about the team on here all the time, usually accepted by majority. But then certain people go way over the top or has an agenda, and outright refuse to change their mind on anything when they've commented on something
I think when you get a gaffer who comes in and sees what everyone else sees and steers away from silly buzz words and the usual rubbish they all spout every 5 minutes, I think the fans warm to you more and are willing to give you abit more time. Collins used to get under my skin when he sometimes overdid the defending of the players, it turned from him defending them to just insulting the fan’s intelligence. Clarke doesn’t strike me as a man who wants to be a liked man, he strikes me as a determined winner. That is exactly what we needed last year. Impressed with his views and attitude. Very similar to Barnsley folk, says it how it is.
Fair enough, but, and it's a huge but... We were in complete control before Clarke made the substitutions. Not playing particularly well, but solid. The system was working, we had an excellent shape and Lincoln couldn't get anywhere near us. And we were 2-0 up. The only chance they created was when Roberts took a long throw which meant we were short in numbers at the back when they broke. The substitutions destroyed us. We disintegrated after he made them. The runs that Watters was making and the pace he has meant they had to put three players on him. I'm not claiming Watters played well, but his attributes scare defences. Marsh couldn't scare a mouse. Lincoln pretty much ignored him from the moment he was brought on, pushed further forward and we were on the back foot from the point that we made our substitutions. As for Russell, I don't think he touched the ball. So yes, Clarke is correct in that we didn't reach the standards that we are capable. But his substitutions caused us the most problems. Having said all that, we won. And although we didn't deserve it for the last half hour, I think we did for the first 60 minutes because we were the more organised team.
So Clarke destroyed us with his substitutions but Watters took 3 of there players out of the game ? We all want Watters to come good but we don't have to invent scenarios that didn't happen, it was another nearly performance from him but the team still won so credit needs to go elsewhere today.
