Two convincing wins in a row (admittedly against the two worst teams in the Division), and Middx losing as well for the first time. We've put ourselves right back in the promotion hunt.
A select 11 are playing West Indies now and Harry Duke and Will Luxton are playing. I think it’s in Kent under the guise of FCC X1 ( first class cricket club ??? )
First innings you think pitch is poor. Second innings you think it's a road. Unusual looking scorecard that for a pitch to improve as it gets more worn out.
Next 2 games are both at home. May define the season. v Sussex (1st) at Scarborough v Middlesex (2nd) at Headingley Could go down to Last match Sussex v Middlesex Yorks v Northants
2 bits of good news from Yorks ; Fisher played in seconds match against Notts and took 2-18. Fernando’s stint has ended but we’re trying to get him back for later games
Is this sustainable for Yorkshire? The team are not very good and there’s no fecker here. The overheads to stage a game at Headingley must be massive. Why don’t they play some fixtures at different venues around the county where there may be a bit more enthusiasm for it?
Me and my son will go to see Yorkshire a couple of times a season. Always York or Scarborough (maybe Mansfield this year). NEVER Headingley, awful place. Seems like I’m not on my own. The out grounds are always packed apart from championship days at Scarborough in term time.
The Cheltenham College playing field is dressed up for the Festival games and it’s not hard to get big scores there because it’s such a small playing area. I saw some great players there when I lived in Gloucester, the most frightening being Courtney Walsh with his lightening fast deliveries. Jack Russell had to stand well back to field the ball as it whizzed past the batsman. It’s much better seeing quality players at small festival grounds with most seats taken and plenty bringing their own to sit around the boundary edge. I do like headingley as well but not when it’s only about a quarter full. Why on earth they put that great big white elephant of a new stand up is a mystery to me. You hardly ever see anybody in it.
Rumors abound at Headingley - supposed to be after Lehman or Silverwood for next season as head coach to replace OG. Lehmann was in Yorkshire last week.......
Bairstow being allowed to play against Sussex at Scarborough this week. Nice of the ECB to allow him to play. He won't have his central contract much longer. In other news why have Yorkshire brought back Richard Pyrah to coach the ladies?
Oh he reads the room. He just gives zero Fs what anyone else thinks. Give it a couple of years and it'll be 99% white public schoolboys again
I would love for the Lehmann rumour to be true. The greatest ever to play for our county, not just overseas.
Enjoyed his stint with us. But I think Tendulkar. Boycott. Trueman and Sellers to name just 4. Would fit that bill more. I would have him back though.
