yep all fair points mate but I suspect the market dictates a lot of this, as we will be in a chain. I do agree that not sIgNiNg a sTrIkEr when realistically we had 8 months to do it is poor. I doubt Lee Gregory would have cost the earth for example.

I would rather we got players in of quality on 31 August than lesser quality 1 June.

I am therefore prepared to reserve a bit of judgement.

That’s subjective though. What’s to say what’s available now is more quality at the start of the summer. Would imagine the pool of what’s left and available now is more in demand also so a greater chance of being stuck with a lesser option with everyone chasing at the same time. Unfortunately once again it shows we operate really poorly we knew Cole was gone or going by Xmas last year. The fact that we haven’t recruited anyone in the forward areas by now and by pointing out that not having players in place by pre-season hindering our start to a season yet once again we are here.

What clubs in the country run without their owners putting money in to cover losses? I bet it is very very few if any at all.

If the intention of the board is to have a club that runs in profit each season then they are in the wrong game and need to sell up.

If the club is struggling to be able to buy a player from Mansfield for a reported 750k after selling 10 million quid worth of players last season that is a joke. We have had the promotion word thrown around time and time again all summer by the players, manager and board as our aim for the season, even had our own Sporting Director tell us we have a higher than average budget for this season too, yet we have spent (so far) a reported 200k on Gent and a small compensation fee for Smith. That aside, we have a few loans and two ex reds on frees. That's it. I am no accountant or financial expert but that is not a higher than average budget to me.

If they want promotion and to be then establishing in the league above, the fact is they will need to invest some money. All the other sides around us are, so they need to do same or sell up. We are not asking for a Birminghamesque summer of spending with 15 ish million spent so far, but just a few strikers.

What makes you believe that statement. We've had near on twenty weeks to bring in at least one striker.. we already knew both Cole and McAtee wouldn't be here in April if not before.. And folk are still hoping for 3 in the last week.. and those being our main targets and the pick of the window... Give over..
Everybody and there granny knows we are desperate.. Do you think these prize last days players will be cheaper than the ones back in May..? Will the other clubs have our best interests at heart or have us by the nuts the closer we get to the window closing?
I think we've missed our targets awhile ago and are grasping at staws now.. the players on the top of our list are long gone. Because we can't get them for the fees and the wages we are offering..
Which is ok we'll go with what we have within budget. But as a club behind the scenes we keep expanding Khalid Job in 3 jobs.. a playing staff that's way too large more coaches than you can wave a stick at.. A non producing white elephant academy and now a ladies team.. all to be staffed and looked after.
We even have a No2 kitman there's that many shirts to wash.. We are not Benfica, we are Barnsley in the 3rd division..
It's seems quite ridiculous how this club is being run at present..

But where does all the money go? There is zero customer experience and we don't seem interested in providing services fit for purpose that would increase income

I'd rather get players we specifically targeted on 1st Jun than having to take what's left on 31st August.

I don't believe there is any advantage at all to signing players so late in the window and any signings we do make aren't the players we really wanted.

Bang on. Every transfer is done in instalments but why aren’t we doing the same? We essentially have £8 million (incoming). That £8 million seems like it’s not gonna get spent until it’s physically in our bank account. Why aren’t we putting offers to clubs with similar instalments or are we accepting ridiculous instalment offers?

We got over £1 million up front for Kitching last summer and the same recently as another installment. That’s £2 million in our bank account. I believe it was something similar with Andersen. That’s not far off £5 million already received.

Would Darrell Clarke have even took the job of he knew he would be lied to about signings. No wonder they all fúck off at the 1st opportunity.

I think the problem is that there is nothing to sell. They are the best part of £20m in for a third tier club with minimal saleable assets, no ground and around £5m of debt.

I’m pretty sure they would sell if someone would take this off their hands.

I would be amazed if we weren’t also paying in instalment's unless it because of the smaller amounts we pay(I can see if we are paying say £100k for someone where it would need to be all but if it was a million not).

Transfer deadline day is end of August, this affects every club and the excitement of transfer deadline day is because so much happens on this day.

    Or am I missing something?

    Yes, you're missing something.

Several other teams have managed to get strikers in before the start of the football season.

I would too…but I think the market may dictate we can’t.

I think there will be a flurry of activity for all clubs at the end of the month

I've defended the club to some extent, but it is extremely concerning that each of the last few seasons we appear to have screwed over the head coach with our recruitment or lack of, and made their task very difficult. People complain about our head coaches walking out at the first opportunity i.e. MLH, but seriously who can blame them with the absolute **** show around recruitment? Last season the issues were at the opposite end of the pitch when Collins was left with an extremely poor defensive line up, this year it's the striker/ wide positions. As others have rightly pointed out in this thread, it's not a surprise to anyone that we needed recruitments in certain positions given McAtee wasn't our player and it was pretty obvious a while back that Cole was going to move on. I really feel for Darrell Clarke and he will have my full backing but those off the pitch need to start doing their jobs better.
