I've not seen anyone pick up on it, but Doug O'Kane has commented several times in his updates that the club feel the better deals for strikers are towards the end of the window. That suggests they are making something of an active choice to delay signing forward players.
Manchester City, generally regarded as one of the best 2 club sides in the world, have one striker. Just saying…
The only one of the new ownership group to have taken money out of the club was Paul Conway when he took a salary as acting CEO.
Year after year people like you make this ridiculous insinuation and year after year it's categorically proved to you that it's untrue yet here you are again. I fully agree that we need to get our finger out and if we want Styles off the books and Keilor Davis in for what looks like the sake of a couple of hundred grand in each instance then we need to get our fingers out. But the claim that the Board are taking cash OUT of the club? Grow up ffs.
It’s time the club & the supporters accept that we are a mid table league one club, & will remain that way if things stay the same off & on the field. The club do themselves no favours constantly spinning the “promotion” line, it just sets the team & the supporters up to fail & feel major disappointment year on year, especially with the lack of required quality signings to fulfil such ambitions. Being up front about finances & how much we can realistically afford would be a start. Transparency is key.
Are we a mid table League One club though? As much as I've hammered the club for its off the field dealings, the playing part has generally gone OK. 5th and 6th the last two years, and basically denied promotion from a combination of a dodgy ref, a Connell miss, and that cnt Windass. Then last season after been castigated all year, we were in 6th place with a game to go before the Board panicked and shat their pants because of a few boos. I think that for all the faults of the Board and "executives" at the club, I don't think you can fault the efforts of the gaffer and his players/staff.
Nothing to sell as recruitment model is all wrong, the squad imbalance is unbelievable doesn't feel like there's much method with the likes of Shaw, Dallas to name a couple amongst loads. Tbf to Patrick his recruitment and eye for a player( or whoever it was on his watch) Winnall, Hourihane, Roberts, Mawson, Vaz te, Moore, Bradshaw, all returned a profit much better than we have under this ownership. Can only see it being the lad Faal from WBA plus a loan deal, unless we are willing to stump up.
We will be at the end of this season, unless the club push the boat out & bring in the required quality to push us further up the table. But then again we have too many players at the club who aren’t good enough anyway. Especially on last nights showing.
This. Although we finished 4th under Duff didn’t we? We fetched McAtee in late in the window last season and he worked out okay. A lot loved him. I’ve been saying it for a few weeks now, and I guess the closer the deadline looms it’s gets a bit nervier but, we get 2 decent strikers in and we will be in and around the playoffs yet again. After we got relegated from the championship, it was “we’ll drop right through to league 2”. We got to the playoff final. Then after that it was “we aren’t as good this season, we’ll be midtable or worse”. Playoffs again.
So you're making a prediction on our final position based on a game last night which included 15 lads who won't make 10 league starts this season between them.
Not at all, the players included last night Russell, O’Keefe, Marsh, & Benson are around the first team squad, they are not good enough sadly, but we are lumbered with them & clearly can’t afford to add to the squad unless players move on or we land cheap loans. Not to mention the striker crisis, & a leaky defence following on from last season. Mid table is a realistic prediction.
I generally try to avoid the negativity (and I've no interest in all the input from our resident financial "experts") but it's hard to defend the striker situation. Although I believe they are trying and will bring options in. It's ridiculous that we have got to this stage with such limited options up front.
