Good luck, I’ve got all this to come next year. I hope kids can shut out the Daily Mail headlines (“GCSEs are getting easier”) and the news bulletins today. This generation is so much smarter and accepting than mine - they should be lauded irrespective of results.
I’m not allowed to know his results, got to drive through to Rotherham to his mums work so we find out together. He is signing up for his a levels though so I assume he’s done well. He can’t do his first choices though as computer science is on the some timetable schedule as physics. Wanted to do maths physics and computer science, he’s ended up picking maths physics and economics.
GCSEs are incredibly important for most kids for about 3-4 months until they start the next phase of their lives. At their age, there is nothing they cannot recover from if they do badly. Having said that, good luck to all the kids getting results.
Fingers crossed for my Grandson today. Can’t be easy living in the big shadow of his older Brother who got 4 A* and off to Oxford.
I got really good GCSE results and I earn a fraction of what my mate does, who dropped out and got basically nothing from school. We still meet up most weeks, and are great friends. He's something senior in computers. Education is really important, but exam results aren't! If you concentrate on what you actually learned then you'll do fine.
Member of my cohort from uni is quite similar. Pretty much never attended lectures. Spent his first two years smoking weed and doing incomprehensible stuff with his computer, before dropping out and getting a job. One of those hobbies has led to an extremely well-paid career. I'll leave you to guess which one.
